DETROIT — Michigan is officially becoming the first state in the Midwest to allow marijuana for more than medical purposes.
Thursday marks the first day for recreational partaking of pot, following voters’ strong endorsement in the Nov. 6 election. Michigan is among 11 states along with the District of Columbia to have legalized adult use.
Michigan residents 21 and older can possess or transport up to 2.5 ounces (70.8 grams) of marijuana and grow up to 12 plants out of public view. It can be consumed only at homes or other private property, though landlords and employers can prohibit it.
The move comes 10 years after Michigan voters approved medical marijuana.
Retail shops are still months away and must involve state regulators.

Good! So glad to see this. Hope more states wake up and do the same. It's up to them, but they should legalize and regulate pot, in my opinion.

Not cool! Big mistake that will hurt future Americans, especially our children and grandchildren. Some things are more important than state revenues. This is all about greedy states looking for revenue sources.

The people of each state have a legal right to decide what is right for their state. If I don't live there, if I can't vote there I don't try to tell them how to run THEIR state.

It's in opposition to federal law! Would you be okay with states breaking federal law and intentionally giving illegals aliens the right to work in the state legally ...... and demanding that ICE stay the hell out and leave their illegals alone? Of course you wouldn't. Marijuana is a legally prohibited drug as classified by federal law.
I'm not okay with states picking and choosing which laws to ignore and which ones to enforce.
As for marijuana legalization, it's silly to think legalizing pot in one state want negatively impact neighboring states.Last edited by MW; 12-07-2018 at 01:48 PM.
