    NAFTA Affects Mexico's Food Sovereignty

    NAFTA Affects Mexico's Food Sovereignty

Mexico, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has resulted in Mexico losing its food sovereignty and increased poverty, experts warned in this capital.

Researchers from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the National Institute for Forestry, Agricultural and Livestock Research warned against an increase in Mexico's food dependence and a reduction in the country's agricultural area as a result of the NAFTA.

Horacio Catalan, a professor from UNAM's Economics Faculty, urged to change the agricultural model that encourages imports in detriment of national farmers, especially cereal and oleaginous plant growers.

According to Victor Quintana, a congressman from the northern state of Chihuahua, the government's agricultural policy worsens the vulnerability of Mexican farmers and drains the country's economic resources.

Food imports, he added, account for more than 50 percent of profits from oil exports and 72 percent of money remittances.

Remittances beneficiaries need to stop buying processed food in supermarkets and start growing and preserving more.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

(NAFTA) has resulted in Mexico losing its food sovereignty
And Mexico has resulted in America losing its national sovereignty.

    increased poverty
Then why are so many aliens from Mexico overweight? I have yet to see anorexic-looking Mexicans begging for food. This is hogwash.

Keep blaming NAFTA rather than corrupt governmental elites for your woes, mexico. It's done so well for you this far.

NAFTA, is the precursor to the NAU. Govt controls the food, govt controls the people. Farmers in Mexico could not afford to raise crops after NAFTA. AGO Business has taken over and created more modern day slavery.
