Nature proves Al Gore wrong again
Nature proves Al Gore wrong again

Gore’s “ice free Arctic” prediction from five years ago, falsified by nature itself
The great bloviator has been pwned again, by the actions of nature itself. In Germany, five years ago this past Saturday, Al Gore claimed that the ““Entire north polar ice cap will be gone in 5 years” .

Also, in Gore’s Dec. 10, 2007 “Earth has a fever” speech, Gore referred to a prediction by U.S. climate scientist Wieslaw Maslowski that the Arctic’s summer ice could “completely disappear” by 2013 due to global warming caused by carbon emissions.
He’s been proven wrong on those two predictions, and he’s likely to be proven wrong on a third, when he moved the goalposts in 2009 in this video.
While we had a new record low in 2012 for the summer minimum, the 2013 rebound made Gore’s predictions a certain failure.

Now, on the 5 year anniversary of his prediction on December 14th, 2008, the Arctic sea ice is within a standard deviation of the “normal” line, and global sea ice is actually above normal:Arctic sea ice withing a standard deviation of the 1981-2010 average line:

Global sea ice area is 0.669 million square kilometers above the 1979-current average:

Currently, both the North and South Pole are sporting massive ice caps:Image: North Pole – National Snow and Ice Data Center – December 15, 2013 6:51:42 AM- click to enlarge

To convince his followers in the future, maybe Mr. Gore will have to resort to airbrushing out the Arctic ice cap, like he did on his book: Not finding any, Gore airbrushes in hurricanes for his new book:
Above: Al Gore’s book cover foldout with 4 scary hurricanes, some rotating the wrong direction – hey where’s the ice? (Image courtesy of Dr. Ryan Maue).
With such a track record, one wonders why anyone but the “galactically stupid” would listen to Gore, the great bloviator, on climate any more.
James Lovelock was right about Gore, this from Climate Depot:
Alert: ‘Gaia’ scientist James Lovelock reverses himself: I was ‘alarmist’ about climate change & so was Gore! ‘The problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago’
Climate Shocker: In 2007, Lovelock Predicted Global Warming Doom: ‘Billions of us will die; few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in Arctic’
There are too many Ehrlichs running amok in the media.
UPDATE: More goalpost moving. Now the new year is 2016 according to this story.
UPDATE2: It seems that it just isn’t extent and area that rebounded in 2013, but volume of the sea ice as well, something we’ve been told by top climate advocates was not likely to happen:Data from Europe’s Cryosat spacecraft suggests there were almost 9,000 cu km of ice at the end of this year’s melt season.Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-25383373
This is close to 50% more than in the corresponding period in 2012.

Here's What The 'Polar Vortex' That's Hitting The US Actually Is
Lauren F Friedman Jan. 5, 2014, 1:05 PM 78,755 27
As tundra-like temperatures and wind chills as cold as 70 below zero fan out across the country, everyone is blaming the "polar vortex."
Polar vortexes, though, are nothing new. They occur seasonally at the North Pole, and their formation resembles that of hurricanes in more tropical regions: fast-moving winds build up around a calm center. Unlike a hurricane, these are frigid polar winds, circling the Arctic at more than 100 miles per hour.
The spinning winds typically trap this cold air in the Arctic. But the problem comes when the polar vortex weakens or splits apart, essentially flinging these cold wind patterns out of the Arctic and into our backyards.
NOAA scientists have suggested that warming temperatures in the Arctic may be responsible for the weakening of the polar vortex. When the vortex weakens, it's more likely to break apart and become a factor in our winter weather.
A 2009 vortex breakdown drove temperatures in parts of the Midwest down to -22F. Here's a NASA illustration of the polar vortex (left) and it splitting in two (right):

It won't just feel like Arctic temperatures in parts of the country this week — the weather system is actually Arctic air invading from the north. Of course, the idea that the polar vortex is responsible for the current cold snap is a strong theory, not a fact. As NOAA notes: "Many factors, including random chaos in the development of weather patterns, can produce such extreme winter events."

Frozen in time: Michigan lighthouses transformed into stunning giant icicles after being frozen solid by storm

These frozen lighthouses in Michigan could easily be mistaken for a scene from the disaster movie The Day After Tomorrow.
Standing in temperatures well below freezing, the 30ft structures have been transformed into giant icicles.
These stunning photographs were captured by American photographer Thomas Zakowski, 56, on a trip to two cities in Michigan after a storm battered the state.
Entombed by the weather: This lighthouse in Michigan resembles a giant icicle after crashing waves were frozen around it by a severe winter storm
Picturesque: This lighthouse was captured in the city of St Joseph. The structures can remain frozen for over a month during particularly severe winters
Mr Zakowski, from South Bend, Indiana, said: 'The lighthouses were frozen solid by the waves that came crashing down against the pier.
'What made the photograph of one of them so interesting was the fact that the storm was so intense it uplifted the anchors of the scaffolding which had been left there after painting.

'It looks like a stairway in many ways and added a quality to the scene you will never see again.'
Every year, Thomas makes the trip to St Joseph and South Haven, both cities in Michigan, after a big storm to capture the resulting scenes.

'An event I look forward to very much': Every year, Mr Zakowski makes the trip to St Joseph and South Haven after a big storm to capture the resulting scenes
He said: 'Depending on the year, the lighthouses can remain freezing for over a month, but it all depends on the weather.
'Every year it's different, but it's an event I look forward to very much. To get there was a little tricky, as first you have to make your way out on the pier.
'It's like walking on an ice skating rink and at one point I have to duck walk past the first building in order to safely get to what I call the prize.
'Even though my photographs attract a lot of positive attention, that's not the main reason why I do it. I simply make the trek out there because the particular area fascinates me.'
Nature's beauty: The lighthouses and their piers were frozen solid by the waves that came crashing down and then froze
More than half of the continental U.S. is in the grip of a 'polar vortex' that has sent temperatures plunging to their coldest level in nearly 20 years.
As many as 140 million Americans are bracing themselves for dangerously cold start to the week, with some cities expecting temperatures of between -30C to -50C.
For a big chunk of the Midwest, the subzero temperatures were moving in behind another winter storm, creating more than a foot of snow and high winds that made traveling treacherous.
