RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTATV) - Nebraska lawmaker, Anna Wishart, plans to drop their state voting age down to 16 years old next year.
We ran a poll on our news facebook page asking if people believe 16 year olds should be able to vote, we then received 4 times more interactions than usual, with the final outcome being 93 percent saying "NO" to 16 years old voting.

Rapid City High School students had a similar response.

Sydney Kincart, a 17-year-old Junior, thinks it's a good topic to talk about.

Sydney said, "I think it should definitely be brought up because they're issues that do affect us but I do think it's a big responsibility and I don't think every 16 years old is ready for it."

Noah Renden is a 17-year-old Senior and believes while some students are educated enough to vote, some aren't so much.

"I love reading the news and love watching politics and I'm very well informed especially with the governor's race in South Dakota, I try to talk to people about the news and they either don't care or don't listen," Noah said.

The voting age lowered to 18 from 21 in 1971 and became the 26th amendment to our U.S constitution but it seems as though South Dakota residents don't want the age to drop any lower.

Facebook comments read that 16 years olds are not mature enough, or even smart enough and some people went as far to say the voting age should actually be raised.

The main argument from lawmakers is that it would improve voter turnout among young people when they turned 18.
