Two Mexican nationals were arrested Tuesday night with 678 grams of heroin worth an estimated $30,000, approximately $25,000 in cash and two firearms following a six-month investigation into an alleged heroin pipeline from Mexico into Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties, according to a state Department of Public Safety news release.

Juan Cabellero-Candelaria and Daniel Mendoza-Carrillo, both of Mexico, were identified as associates of a Mexican drug trafficking organization that is a primary supplier of drugs to northern New Mexico, the release said.

They were arrested by New Mexico State Police in conjunction with the Region III Narcotics Task Force, the Middle Rio Grande Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration, according to the DPS.

More arrests are expected, the release said.
