Obamacare Contractors Received Over $1 Billion and More is on the Way

A few hundred million taxpayer dollars down the drain seems bad enough. However, a new report from The Hill about just how much the Obama administration has spent on its broken website will make your blood boil.
Citing a Bloomberg report, The Hill notes that, despite official claims of a $394 million price tag, Obamacare contractors have actually been paid over $1 billion.
And, while IT projects typically trail off before launch, the study revealed that the Obama administration ramped spending up to the tune of $352 million in the months before the October 1 rollout. Perhaps it realized the site was in shambles and decided to move forward with the launch, anyway.
Worse yet, the Bloomberg researcher expects more spending as the administration scrambles to fix the myriad of problems with the site.
To get a sense of just how expensive this fiasco has become, here are a few other large-ticket items that have actually been successfully designed in recent years:
- Jones AT&T Stadium (most expensive NFL stadium ever built): $1.15 billion
- Grand Theft Auto V (most expensive video game ever made): $266 million
- Bank of America Tower (58-story skyscraper in NYC): $1 billion
It’s also higher than the GDP of 25 countries and territories.
Of course, all this reinforces the obvious yet again: the GOP is sabotaging Obamacare. That’s the reason the Obama administration has spent so much on a website a freshman tech student could have designed better.
