One in Four Children on Food Stamps, One in Eight Overall; Weekly Unemployment Claims Tick Up

With food stamp use at record highs and climbing every month, a program once scorned as a failed welfare scheme now helps feed one in eight Americans and one in four children.

While the numbers have soared during the recession, the path was cleared in better times when the Bush administration led a campaign to erase the program’s stigma, calling food stamps “nutritional aidâ€

Curiously enough, the information on race makeup of those receiving food stamps (box to left of map at link) has no designation for hispanics.

I wonder why they're so conspicuously absent in this case when their special interests have gone to such great lengths in ensuring that they have their own designation for everything else.

Maybe an attempt to lend credence to the disinformation being perpetrated that illegal aliens, especially from Mexico and other latin countries, are not a drain on the system?
