BOSTON, Massachusetts (CNN) -- Sen. Ted Kennedy was released from the hospital Saturday, following a procedure Friday to remove an artery blockage, a spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Democrat said.

"Senator Kennedy was released from Massachusetts General Hospital today following Friday's successful surgery to remove blockage in his carotid artery. After a few days of rest at home in Hyannis Port, the senator will return to the Senate," said Melissa Wagoner.

Kennedy's office said the blockage was discovered "as part of a routine evaluation of Senator Kennedy's back and spine."

"MRI studies picked up an unrelated, asymptomatic blockage in the senator's left carotid artery," the office said Friday in a written statement. It described the procedure as "preventive surgery."

It would be interesting to find out just how many Americans w/o insurance, or means, die of that condition each year because they cannot afford health care at all, let alone preventitive.

But then, those figures would not phase Ted in the least........they don't apply to him, his family or his friends so what should he care?

However...in all seriousness, let's be careful that we do not provoke the liberals into giving us all universal healthcare, not only will America's health care system go down the tubes as with Canada's and the U.K.'s, but then we will no longer be living as free sovereign citizens, we will be the subjects of a socialistic society and rapidly our basic constitutional freedoms will slip down the toilet with our health care.

Let's instead push for total enforcement of our immigration laws so that the illegals, who have clogged up our hospitals and low-cost county clinics, will self-deport or be deported. Hey!! I just thought of the strangeness of this all. Kennedy has a clogged artery and all those illegals he has helped have clogged up our health care system!! Maybe there is vindication after all.

THE ONLY REASON I TEND TO BE IN FAVOR OF UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE IS BECAUSE I DONT SEE US HAVING DECENT HEALTHCARE WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES IN THE MIX. THEY ARE EVIL. IF YOU GET REALLY SICK YOU HAVE TO FIGHT WITH THEM ABOUT WHETHER THEY WILL COVER YOU. THIS AT THE VERY TIME WHEN YOU HAVE NOT THE STRENGTH TO FIGHT.

I GUESS WE COULD REGULATE THE INSURANCE COMPANIES SO THAT IT IS FAIR AND SECURE TO THE PATIENT. BUT I FEAR THEY WOULD CHIP AWAY AT ANY REGULATIONS...PER THEIR USUAL M.O.

I do agree that there is a lot that is so bad about the companies right now, but...if you take illegal aliens out of the equation, then costs start going down in the hospitals and with private practises, pretty soon, we can get back to where we used to be with not only insurance being more affordable, but also if you have to pay out of pocket, the cost's will also be lowered.

However, this may take a while, and although I understand this (more than people would know, I have been without ANY health insurance for about 6 years now) interim time will/would be difficult, nothing that winds up being really good comes easy.

There is no perfect solution, if we lose our sovereignty in our choice of healthcare, then we will surely start losing other choices as well, look at the U.K., gun ownership is almost non-existant, and many other freedoms are slowly slipping away for them as well, and they are just one example of a socialistic society.
