Perry for President Buzz Picking Up Volume
Governor said to be waiting for ‘invitation’ to run for Republican nomination

The Perry for President buzz is growing into a definite road, as no les a figure in conservative circles as Rush Limbaugh has added his voice to the choir, saying the Texas governor would certainly 'shake up' the Republican field, 1200 WOAI news reports.


Sen. John Cornyn, who has occasionally clashed with Perry over issues of policy, told 1200 WOAI's Michael Board that Perry's record is one that the Republican Party would strongly support.



"More than the work of an individual, although he is certain entitled to credit, has been the policies he has helped be enacted by the Texas Legislature," Cornyn said.



The political insider web site 'Real Clear Politics' reported Tuesday that Perry aides have quietly begun sniffing around early decision states like Iowa, and indicated that Perry, who has repeatedly states that he does not want to be president, is waiting for Republicans to 'invite' him to run for their nomination.



Evan Smith, who edits the influential 'Texas Tribune' political web site, isn't surprised that Perry's name is surfacing.



"Perry can claim, whether he personally had anything to do with it or not, that more jobs were created in Texas during the last ten years while he's been governor than have been created in all 49 other states combined," Smith said. "That's a very powerful record to point to in a campaign."



Cornyn said Perry stands for policies that the Republican Party can support.



"We don't think the free enterprise system is a bad idea," Cornyn said. "We actually believe in it, we believe in making job creators' jobs easier, not harder, and I can tell you, that's a message that really needs to be conveyed more forcefully here in Washington DC."



Indications are that Perry prefers to follow the path charted by his predecessor, George W. Bush, who had also pledged not to run for president, but who received a steady stream of Republican delegations in 1999 urging him to run.



"With regard to Governor Perry, I think it's no accident that his name is being mentioned, because Texas is doing well in comparison with the rest of the country," Cornyn said.
