A check that never came led one Easley man to an unsettling discovery this week.

When the man called the Internal Revenue Service looking for his expected economic stimulus check, he learned that someone else had received the check in his name, a police report said.

According to police incident report, the victim was told by the IRS that someone using his name and Social Security number had received the check but at an address where the man has never lived.
