    So, global warming?

Good grief...it is late May in the Pacific Northwest, and so far we have only had a few days without rain. Temperatures are in the 50's, and my toes are cold.

Planted a huge garden (basically, since the kids do not "play" outdoors at nearly 13 and 17, we devoted much of our backyard to producing as much as we can from it. We have a huge bed just for the corn, hopefully get about 30 stalks out of it (yielding about 3 ears per plant?), but am sort of afraid my seeds are going to just mildew down there with all that moisture.

Have to admit, the potatoes, peas and green beans and beet starts are loving it, but the tomatoes are suffering.

So how is the weather in the rest of this great nation where you all are at?

Wow, someone needs to call Al Gore and ask him what the heck is going on, since he seems to know so much about this!

Pray for us out here to get a break and get some heavily needed sunshine, please!

It's near the end of May and it's usually dry as a bone and in the 90's to 100's at this time of the year here in Central California, but not this year! It has rained at least one day each week this month so far and the night time temps are dipping into the 40's and the daytime temps have been in the 50's and 60's with an occasional day or two of 80 degree weather interspersed here and there in between storms.

This planet is a alive and well and it has cycles just as the human body has cycles....that's why it is called "Mother Earth." Just as the human body has mechanisms that steer the body toward homeostasis, to keep the body running as it should, keeping itself in balance no matter what outside influences may bombard it with....so does this planet.

It would take a lot more than cow farts and car exhaust to offset Mother Nature's balance....and if she gets way out of balance, paying a tax to Al Gore and his descendants for eternity is not going to prevent or solve any ecological problems!

I'm near Denver, and our spring has been quite rainy, chilly, and occasionally snowy.

The "Inland Empire" (beyond the Cascades in the Pacific NW) they are having freezing temps, almost nightly, according to NWCN (Northwest Cable News). This is affecting early planting season there.

Here in the Portland Metro area, the entire area is dotted with many extinct shield volcanoes (hills) and one mountain range along the West hills of Portland all the way till us, where we are the foothills of the Cascades, and all the upper elevations are getting frost still.

I should know not to complain, the NW is natorious in getting rain up until mid June, yet it is just getting so old. Just today, wave after wave of torrential rains with some hail, then it will stop, and the next set of dark clouds rolls in, and again the rain. I went out to check on some of my seedlings, and although the rain has been good to get them saturated and up, the ground under foot is absolutely squishy. One good thing we did was to have raised beds with lots of mulch and sand. Although I knew this would mean more watering when it got dry and hot, but right now it likely has to be our saving grace.

Anyone see Glenn Becks little thing he did when he talked about the connections of all these people promoting "green energy" and global warming? He talked about GE, all those people connected to GE, and GE's heavy handed promotion of "climate change". He said all these people have money invested in it, and GE is the biggest to be pushing it to promote their products. Basically they would cash in on it all, thus the reason they are pushing so hard, and who knows, maybe even bribing some scientists?

james, sure is. However, my mother said over her lifetime, all lived in the Pacific NW, she has seen cold streaks, and hot streaks, all about 10 or 20 years. Cycles, like JBParrothead said. Farmers almanacs likely show these patterns too.

Well, to help push back some of the cool wet weather, I made these:
Applesauce cinnamon muffins, really big ones, with coffee! Just had to tease you all, these had just come out of the oven, and the warm cinnamon smell is making me feel a little happier despite the sogginess.

Anytime it is cold, bake something with cinnamon in it, and it will make you feel warmer just by smelling it coming out of the oven, even if it is Pillsbury cinnamon rolls.

JB, it was mandatory in our family, to know how to bake, father was a journeyman baker (you don't see many of those anymore) and mother a cake decorator. We also had a family business for a while in Eastern Oregon. My favorite thing was listening to one of my brothers argue with our dad about making the apple fritters too big (he has a big hand and a big appetite and thought the fritter should be as big as his hand and match his appetite) our dad would tell him he was wasting the product, we could not make enough back to pay for huge fritters.

Butting heads all of the time. However, the teenage guys from the high school across the street on their lunch break thought his idea was pretty good, fifty cents for basically their lunch!
