An Iraqi journalist who was jailed after he threw his shoes at President Bush during a news conference is to be released early.
Muntadhar al Zeidi became a hero across much of the Arab world for his act of defiance last December.
But he was sentenced to three years in an Iraqi prison - reduced to one on appeal - for assaulting a foreign leader.
The 30-year-old will now be freed three months early on September 14 for good behaviour, his lawyer said.
"We have been informed officially about the court decision," Karim al-Shujairi said. "His release will be a victory for the free and honourable Iraqi media."
Sunni politician Dhafir al Ani welcomed news of his early release.
"Al Zeidi's shoes were a suitable farewell for Bush's deeds in Iraq," he added.
"Al Zeidi's act expressed the real will and feelings of the Iraqi people. His anger against Bush was the result of the suffering of his countrymen."
Followers of anti-US cleric Muqtada al Sadr, who held demonstrations demanding al Zeidi's release, also welcomed the decision.
"We believe that al Zeidi did not commit any crime but only expressed the will of the Iraqi people in rejecting the US occupation," Falah Shanshal said.
"Al Zeidi's image will always be a heroic one."
The act transformed the unknown TV reporter into a national celebrity.
A sofa-sized sculpture of a shoe was erected in his honour in Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit, but the Iraqi government later removed it.

he should have put a spin on the shoe like a curve ball.... I was praying for the thrower ... but it just wasnt meant to be. Practice makes perfect. I think Pelosi and Reid should try their odds and give this guy a fair chance with three pitches
