    Question for nurses....

I spent, yet another long, expensive day, at the DR.....

I went because I have to go on the huge search for SUDAFED. I have COPD, asthma, and environmental allergies. They are changing the "formula" for the OTC meds. I knew what they would say coz I have a problem. I took the LEAST expensive meds I could....just to get by=breathing. They do not want us to have them anymore because of METHANPHETHAMINES. I most likely spelled it wrong.

I went, once again......I HAVE ASTHMA AND COPD and environmental ALLERGIES. I'm 51 years old. I've gone to every specialist there was. They are not telling me anything now,....that they didn't tell me years ago. Except my NOW husband.....doesn't want to beleive it.. I told him the truth when we met and it was " no-problem"... But today....HE SAYS THEY ARE LYING AND I"M A SUCKER AND STUPID!!! I'm shocked because I just spent almost 500.00 bucks for them to tell me what I already know!!! Plus a big, ADDABOY for self-diagnosing myself so well all these years!!! But I am older....things are worse and there isn't anything I can do about it. He BLAMES ME, I'm ruining HIS life. Mind you...it's MY PARENTS MONEY that has kept us alive for a good 5 years.
There;s other medical issues I found out about that are simply just ignored. Colon Cancer and Rhematoid arthritis. Simply ignored. Which....I can't blame because I haven't "suffered" any of the worst of it yet. I just want to breathe and that seems to be an ISSUE as well.

I am lost. I expected that he would ATLEAST support an INHALER!!!! But.....no. I don't quite deserve that either.

Since I don't have insurance.....they are encouraging me to search out my WELFARE options. I was told that PATIENCE is mandatory and they would TRY and help me as much as they could.

I do have to admit that I am breathing ALOT better than I ever was. Eyes still swollen and watery. Nose still swollen but I can breathe! I know that sounds like a simple thing but I never realized how much effort I was putting out to do that!!! It's amazing.

But it costs ALOT to do that...

    Sorry.....I am angry and upset........

crazybird, have you ever given much thought to the possibility, you might be allergic to your old man? He sounds like such a nice old boy. I am sorry crazybird, I am not making fun of you, he just seems like a jerk the way you wrote here about him. I am a nurse, though out of the field for last 5 yrs with a disability, you do lose a lot you knew in that amount of time. I didnt really understand you when you said you thought he might support an inhaler, did you mean your husband or the doctor? are you not on inhalers now with your copd?I am sure you already know this, sometimes with an exacerbation, of COPD you might need a round of prednisone, have you taken that before? What exactaly did the doctor say to you, the kind of meds you need? I had heard that they are changing the compositon of sudafed because of the meth, isn't it awful that it is the law abiding citizens that are having to really pay, for the destruction that meth causes, instead of the drugies, I dont think or know if any of this has stopped the making of this drug esp out of Mexico! also, what did you mean when you said your husband, the turkey, said the doctors were lying and you were a sucker? I am sorry, crazybird, sounds like you are going through a hard time here esp if you are saying that you also have colon cancer and arthritis to, you better take care of yourself , little crazybird we need you here let me know if there is anything I can do to help you? I worked in a hospital for over 15 yrs lots of exp with COPD, and asthma, like I said though been out of it for 5 yrs. My brother is an RN also worked about 10 yrs in ER, if there is something specific you need to know maybe I can get the info from here if I have forgotten or if new things out there for you.Crazybird, are you saying the doctor doesn't think you are worth an inhaler? YOu know they use to have primatene mist inhalers over the counter, seems like, I heard they might be pulling that off the market to! Gees, I don't think I have helped you much here, not sure about some of your post, exactally what you meant! I am pretty sure there are other nuses on here from reading some of the post, hopefully some of them are still working and can help you more then I can, they are right about the saying, if you don't use it you lose it, I have forgotten more then my little brother lol will ever know about nursing!
Build the dam fence post haste!

The Dr. prescribed an inhaled steroid QVAR and Albutarol(sp) then samples of AllegraD 12hr. I already know the AllegraD isn't doing the trick. Some things I can tolerate and some I just can't and it's anyones guess as to why. But this is too drying. With all 3 going I managed 3 hrs of sleep. She told me a week to 4 weeks before the full effects of the steroid would be known and we'd have to take it from there. Which I knew coz I took something years ago with success but just couldn't afford to keep it up. The expense is the trigger with my husband. I tried the OTC inhaler before but the Albutarol or MaxAir is much better and the OTC you have to sign for too. Which is issue 2 with hubby. He doesn't want my name and info in a book that they use to track people when there's no indication or proof that's it medically necessary. He figured I'd go to the Dr. and they would give me a prescription for the exact same thing I was getting and then that way I wouldn't have the info in the tracking book and they would always have it in stock so I didn't have to go pharmacy shopping when they ran out. Especially since they already told me they were changing the formula so it could be gotten without signing. But I tried the "new formula" and it doesn't work as well.
I just can't find anything with the antihistamine that works with the sudafed. Everyone that had it is changing it.

Anyway I can't get it through his head that they don't write prescriptions for OTC meds and even if they did, it's not going to make a company not change their formula. So that's why I'm a fool....I'm getting suckered into the drug companys game. The Dr. is lying to me because there HAS to be a game between them and the pharmacudical(sp?) companys. I'm gonna put us in the poor house because I'm buying into it. It's insane. He has limited knowledge if any on alot of topics and it wouldn't make any difference if God himself came down and proved him wrong.....he's gonna beleive what he wants. I'm just sick of the stress and fighting about it. No...the inhalers are not going to cure me. It can't be cured. No...the allergy meds aren't going to make my allergies go away. I just have to deal with the symptoms as best as I can. But since I can't pull a rabbit out of my hat and make the world a perfect place for him.....I'm wrong.

Anyway...Chlorpheniramine Maleate is the antihistamine. Dr. isn't familiar with it for some reason. Then of course with sudafed the decongestent. Any suggestions or something I missed?

    crazybird:

You must be a sole mate! I just love listening to your written words...My health is being worked on, too.

Men are men and women are women...

Yogurt, coconut, and garlic will help you if you can consume, daily. These help get rid of yeast in our bodies.

Don't forget pineapple juice. Gets rid of parasites.

Did you know the other day someone was telling me about iodine in salt?
I use sea salt with nature iodine. But it helps gout and Rhematoid arthritis.
    Use sparingly.

And for colon health: you are going to love this; a lady at Myrtle Beach, who had had colon cancer and three surgeries gave me the scoop on foods to not eat! 1) iceberg lettuce sticks and coats colon - never exits 2) raw carrots will cut the inside of the colon 3) and beef is hard to digest.

Quitting iceberg lettuce, raw carrots and limiting beef has helped me, totally.

Hydrogen peroxide on a Q-tip to cleanse the nose and ears will help. Hydrogen peroxide kills fungus:

(Some history: The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified hydrogen peroxide as a Low Regulatory Priority (LRP) drug for use in controlling fungus on fish and fish eggs)

Inner ear infections all my life. It seems you and I have similar health issues. Doctor will not cure us!!!

Drink and gargle with Coca-cola for sore throats.

Omega 3 ?, salmon, weekly at least - might keep us thinking and typing

ALIPAC, sudoku (www.latimes.com ; read the news while you are there),
teach a child math or something daily, e-bay store, take a walk, take care of animals, food, laundry, house, yard and basic needs (all these only if possible)

We need to be doing now what our whole life as been waiting on
