Report: Israel nears attacking Iran

Top US politicians have reportedly said that Israel is seriously considering taking unilateral military action against Iran.

As the dispute over Iran's nuclear program heats up, top US advisors and experts on Middle East affairs, released a report on Wednesday, saying "Israel's time frame for action (against Iran) is growing shorter."

The experts at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP) said Israel feels an urgent need to take action against what it called "Iran's advancement in acquiring nuclear weapons."

In the article: "Preventing a Cascade of Instability," the bipartisan group reiterated that the Israeli officials were alarmed that "Tehran might soon acquire upgraded air defenses and disperse its nuclear program to additional locations."

Several authors of the report however have met with high-level Israeli officials to evaluate their perspective, and noted that Israel is not interested in becoming part of an "American nuclear umbrella".

"A declared US guarantee would clarify a situation of ambiguity that may already work to Israel's advantage," the report noted. Also, "many Israelis fear that a declared US guarantee could come at the price of circumscribing Israel's freedom of action in confronting existential dangers."

This is while former US ambassador to the United Nations Nancy Soderberg, noted that the timetable for an Israeli attack might be "significantly" moved up if Tel Aviv was under the impression that Russia was going to supply Iran with the S-300 surface-to-air missile system which would get in the way of any Israeli attack.

The 10-page document urges for more international sanctions and expanding financial pressure on Iran.

They can't just sit by and wait until the missle hits them. They fully intend to wipe Israel off the map and they don't care about the consequences. They have expressed their willingness to die, en masse, for the jihad.

The late Paul Harvey, commenting on his visits to the Middle East, said he came away with the certain conclusion, (speaking slowly with a pause between words.) "They -don't -want-peace." It's all about their dedication, to death, to an ideology of "dying for maryterdom." That's their ultimate goal and reward.

I say dump Israel. Im sick of supporting Zionists and their bigotry and land grabbing already. They will gladly risk Armageddon in order to take as much of the land that they consider to be greater Israel as possible. And the U S taxpayers are guilted or just plain forced to support their actions?

Let the Muslims have the land of palastine and put a big wall all around the dangerous middle east countries and we are set.

I'm surprised at the people that are mad at Israel? To me they are protecting themselves. Some of me contact list gave me grief yesterday about how much money Israel has costs us and we keep giving it to them. they are sick of it and seem to think that because more animals died that were Hamas that they are being pummelled.

I think they are misinformed! Israel got attacked for about 5 years by about 300 rockets(Is this correct?) BEFORE they attacked. I would have attacked on the first damn missile launched!!!

I saw the video of the Hamas supporters and how they acted in their protests. Why are they allowed to stay here in the USA and cause trouble?

602 rocket and mortar attacks in '08 alone. This past week there were several fired into Israel and the week before, .......it goes on.

What land grabbing are you talking about? Theve been giving up land in order to have peace. We can see how well thats been going.

The only suggestion I have is that you might consider conducting your own research on the Israeli/Palestinian issue for answers to your questions. There are plenty of resources available, from MSM, alternative, and academic sources.
