The party of fairness today pulled a dirty trick to keep John McCain from losing the Nevada state GOP Convention.

After a speech by Ron Paul that was very well received and after the party platform was accepted, which illustrated overwhelming support for Ron Paul due to his multiple issues being represented, several McCain supporters began to leave. One woman came up to me to say that they were all leaving because Ron Paul was going to get most or all of the delegates and they were going to try to get enough people to leave in order to not have a quorum. Just before the vote for the remaining 22 delegates, the convention chair Bob Beers announced that we were going to recess and we were to resume some other day yet to bet determined. With one click of the gavel, Mr. Beers ran from the room along side all of the committee chairs. This obviously caused quite a commotion with many people yelling for an appeal.

Roberts Rules permits an appeal of the chair’s decision, however Mr. Beers permitted no opportunity for appeal. An appeal if offered certainly would have met the requirement of quorum, however to promote confusion, the GOP had the microphones cut off and turned out the lights. When we were finally able to find a microphone, security came to take it away. This in addition to the darkness made it difficult to maintain order and hard to advise people that they should stay. When the lights finally came back on, we were about 100 people short of convening with a quorum.

The actions of the republican party leadership and the McCain campaign were reprehensible. I can’t see how they expect to win over Ron Paul supporters with such actions. In addition the Nevada state GOP should be ashamed at their actions and the citizens of Nevada should seriously reconsider if they can support a party that supports such snakelike and underhanded actions.

Party chair Susan Lowden started the day stating that we were going to have a fair and orderly convention. She obviously had no intention of maintaining a fair convention unless it was ultimately going to favor McCain.

I’m really ashamed of my party. Shame on Sue Lowden. Shame on Bob Beers. Shame on the leadership of the Republican Party of Nevada.
