Southbound border checks result in 43 citations
Southbound border checks result in 43 citations

SAN DIEGO — A multi-agency effort to stop and search traffic heading into Mexico on Wednesday resulted in 43 citations and four arrests, the Sheriff's Department announced Thursday.
The effort, dubbed Operation Six Eagles, targeted illegal weapons and other contraband that are often smuggled into Mexico from the United States and used in the violent drug wars plaguing the region.
No illegal weapons were confiscated during Wednesday's operation, but officials issued 43 tickets, impounded 25 vehicles and made four arrests for crimes, including possession of drugs, DUI warrants and probation violation, said sheriff's spokeswoman Jan Caldwell.
Nearly 3,000 vehicles were checked and an estimated 500 pedestrians were questioned at the county's three ports of entry during the effort.
The Coast Guard and U.S. Customs agents also used patrol boats to interdict marine traffic headed south, and helicopters from the two agencies and Sheriff's Department provided aerial support.
Other agencies that participated included Chula Vista police, San Diego Harbor police, the California Highway Patrol and the county Probation Department.
The operation was funded through a U.S. Department of Homeland Security program that provided $60 million in grants nationwide to help local authorities with border security.

The gun traffic to Mexico is a Red Herring designed to take your attention off the fact that they have all but stopped interior immigration enforcement.
How many gun seizures have they gotten? Next to Nada.
Their great effort is not doing what they clain it is set up to do.
More bad change.

For starters, more than half of the releases you listed were prior to the new Obama administration's border policy. That would tell me that the AFT probably should get credit for those seizures and not Operation Six Eagles, nor Napolitano.
Of the 12 reportes you posted in only 2 are relavant to the date of March 10th, which you also posted. Not to mention, a few of the posts didn't even list the number of weapons, since they were obviously used to secure the transportation of dope and not as exports.
March 24, 2009 Cincinatti is not on the Mexican Border.
3 Shotguns at Laredo Port of Entry (Tuesday, March 17, 2009)
I would rather have the over 100 officers pulled off of interior immigration enforcement back at home doing their jobs, instead of wasting time and money to catch 3 shotguns.
The dog has been wagged so hard on this bull that his tail came off in Napolitano's hand.
