    On Taxing the Bonuses

Just for the sake of discussion:

The Congress is going to vote today on a bill that will tax the receipients of the AIG bonus pool.
Is this just a convenient way to redistribute the wealth?

By getting this law on the books in a "crisis" will it only pertain to those companies that received the TARP money or will it encompass executives of all companies?

This seems to be an interesting way to get a 90-100% tax on the books that will "redistribute" the wealth. Something that wouldn't have been easy to accomplish under normal circumstances.

It has been reported that the amendment that would have restricted these bonuses to companies receiving TARP was removed in the late night session before the bill was dumped for a vote and Dodd's amendment inserted that allowed it almost feels like a set up.

I, like many other Americans, am very uncomfortable with the direction this country seems to be taking. Forced civil service, the speaker of the house preaching from the pulpit of a church and telling illegals that they are "very patriotic", massive spending on welfare programs. In my opinion we are experiencing the steam rolling of our country to what appears to be socialism.

I am not AT ALL defending these bonuses but I think there is a misunderstanding. These contractors they hire work for little to no money and their payout IS the bonus. So in other words, if this information is true, these contractors will not get paid for their work if they do not receive them. The other big thing is the ridiculous amounts they get paid. They should get paid like everyone else - on a regular basis with an 'normal' fee.

Either way, this is an outrageous amount of money BUT they need to get paid for their work.

Of course obama is not taking blame but it was HIS democratic congress that pushed this stupid bail out through without reading the bills which is unbelievable in itself!!

My concern is; Is this being used to get taxes into law that normally would have been fought aginst under other circumstances.
Is this law being passed just tax AIG bonuses or does it apply to every company that "took" TARP money whether they wanted it or not? If so, can that be extended to every other company whether they took funds or not?
Is this just another "scam" perpetrated by the new administration to redistribute the wealth? If so, the middle class will not benefit.
