With Tea Party Support , Angle Scores in Nevada GOP Senate Primary

    Published June 09, 2010
    | FOXNews.com

The Tea Party movement flexed its muscle Tuesday, powering former Nevada state lawmaker Sharron Angle to victory in the state's Republican U.S. Senate primary and launching her into a high-stakes November showdown against Democrat Harry Reid, the vulnerable Senate majority leader.

With 59 of precincts reporting, Angle won 39 percent of the vote. Her Republican challengers, former state lawmaker Sue Lowden and real estate owner Danny Tarkanian, secured 28 and 23 percent of the vote, respectively.

The three Republican candidates had competed for backing of the anti-incumbent Tea Party movement to give their candidacies a boost in Nevada, where Reid's approval rating has plummeted to 35 percent, according to a recent poll.

The Tea Party Express, one of the most visible factions of the grassroots conservative movement, officially endorsed Angle on April 15. The group, sponsored by the California-based Our Country Deserves Better PAC, has so far spent $550,000 promoting Angle's candidacy -- catapulting her approval rating from a mere 5 percent in early April to double digits.

"Sharron Angle earned our endorsement because she embodies the tea party message of financial sanity and empowering small and local businesses to thrive," Levi Russell, communications director for the Tea Party Express, told FoxNews.com. "We believe there is no question that the people of Nevada and of the entire nation will rally behind her and help send Harry back home to Searchlight.â€

    DEPORT ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS

Let's remove Reid from office in November. And in 2012 let's elect a new president.

News 4 spoke with Nevada GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle on immigration.

"The real question is, how do we battle Harry Reid's push for amnesty? And we have to do that by securing our borders and enforcing our laws."

Angle not only supports Arizona's recently passed immigration law, but she says Arizona is protecting what's constitutionally right.

"I believe it's the job of the federal government but they have failed. And what we've see is when the federal government fails to protect our citizens that the states then take their 10th Amendment rights and say if you won't do it, we will."

Angle wants beefed up security at our borders and military assistance for border patrol. She points to her voting record as a State Assemblywoman to show what else she supports.

"I have introduced legislation to make English the official language of Nevada, to cut down on costs, and also just to reinforce that we have a language of economy throughout the world that is English."

That bill never passed. Angle hopes she can serve Nevada again, this time in Washington.

In a state that is 20 percent Hispanic, Angle supports a requirement for voters to show identification before they can cast ballots.

I love how the liberals in Nevada are acting like she is the worst ever because she wants to abolish social security, medicare and the Department of Education. And that is a bad thing?
