Terror in Stockholm as truck rams into shoppers with three dead and hundreds running for their lives

A truck has rammed into a large crowd of people in the centre of Stockholm killing three people.

Witnesses say the large vehicle drove into people in the shopping district of Drottninggata in the Swedish capital.

Police said a number of people had been hurt in the incident, which comes after trucks were used in terror attacks in Nice and Berlin last year.

Gunshots were also heard from the scene with horrific images showing pools of blood in the street.

Dramatic footage from the scene shows hundreds of people running for their lives as the attack took place.

DESTRIANS FLEE TRUCK IN STOCKHOLM

Swedish television footage shows truck sticking out of side of the department store in downtown Stockholm.

Newspaper Aftonbladet quoted a witness saying they saw hundreds of people running for their lives near the Ahlens mall

Another witness told the newspaper that the out-of-control truck ran over at least two people.

Eyewitness Jan Granroth said: "We stood inside a shoe store, and we heard no noise, and so people start screaming.

"So I look out at the store, so I see a huge truck slams into the wall opposite."
