Thompson picks up Iowa endorsement

DES MOINES —
Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson earned the endorsement of Iowa conservative Bill Salier today.

Salier, a farmer from Nora Springs who ran for the U.S. Senate in 2002, had been serving as the state chairman for Tom Tancredo’s campaign. Tancredo dropped out of the presidential race Thursday.

Fred Thompson Receives Endorsement of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for LifeMcLean, VA -Today Fred Thompson received the endorsement of the Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, the Minnesota affiliate of the National Right to Life Council.

"MCCL has joined NRLC and many state affiliates in endorsing Fred Thompson," said Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life Executive Director Scott Fischbach. "His record and his positions on issues affecting life have earned Thompson our support for president."

The National Right to Life Committee is the nation's largest pro-life group with affiliates in all 50 states and more than 3,000 local chapters nationwide. National Right to Life works through legislation and education to protect those threatened by abortion, infanticide, euthanasia and assisted suicide. MCCL is Minnesota's oldest and largest pro-life organization with more than 70,000 member families and 240 chapters across the state.

Fred Thompson Endorsement by Judge Paul Pressler a Significant Moment

Fred Thompson has received the endorsement today of Houston, Texas Judge Paul Pressler, a former Texas Court of Appelas Judge. What makes this endorsement VERY significant is that Judge Pressler is widely known within the Southern Baptist Convention as the man who planned the conservative resurgence within the nation’s largest Protestant Denomination.

I am a Southern Baptist myself, and I can say that Judge Pressler is one of the most respected voices in the denomination among conservatives. The Southern Baptist Convention was headed in a leftward, liberal direction in the late 1970’s. Judge Pressler led a movement that began to tell the truth about the liberal drift in the denomination. As a result, in 1979, conservatives rose up and began to elect leaders who were conservative and not liberal. The denomination has been led by conservatives ever since. It is the only known instance of a major denomination headed in a liberal drift that has corrected course and moved back in the conservative direction. Judge Pressler had a lot to do with that happening.

The fact that Judge Pressler has looked over all the candidates, including fellow Southern Baptist Mike Huckabee, and decided to endorse Fred Thompson will speak volumes to the millions of Southern Baptists across the nation. Fred should be very proud to receive this endorsement, and it will have an impact in states like South Carolina, Florida and others in the Bible Belt.
