Three dead, six hurt in overnight gun violence

In Barclay, a 9-year-old was injured in a shooting that killed a 45-year-old man.


Three men died and six other people were injured, including a 9-year-old girl, as Baltimore logged seven different shootings overnight, police said Saturday.

The three men who died were killed in unrelated shootings for which police offered no motives. The deaths keep the city on pace to hit more than 300 killings this year as Baltimore grapples with surge of violence.


This is a short video captured by Citiwatch of the suspects in the Barclay Street incident that left one man dead and a nine-year-old girl injured.


Romel Simms, 23, was killed around 10 p.m. in the in the Mount Holly neighborhood. Police said a gunman emerged from a car that pulled up beside Simms and friends in the 3800 of Clifton Avenue. Simms was hit multiple times as the gunman opened fire, police said.

Thomas Meehan, 26, of Dundalk, was killed around 11 p.m. after being shot multiple times while sitting near a playground on the 6100 block of Fortview Way.


Kirk Butler, 45, was killed around 10 p.m. in the Barclay neighborhood. A 9-year-old girl was also grazed by the bullet, police said. Police did not offer any other details in that shooting.


Other deaths and injuries were scattered around the city.

Another person injured by gunfire early Saturday was found sitting on the steps of the police's Western District station house at about 1:45 a.m. Bleeding from both legs, the 25-year-old man only told officers on which block he was shot and offered no other details, police said.

Also in the Western District, another man was shot in what he described to police as an attempted robbery in the 2100 block of Ridgehill Avenue. Police said the man, 20, told police he was smoking marijuana with friends on a stoop, and he was shot while running away from a stranger who walked up and said he was going to rob them.


In Eastern District, a 28-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were injured in a shooting around midnight while sitting on the stoop of a vacant home in the 2000 block of Kennedy Avenue, police said.

A 34-year-old man at Saint Agnes Hospital told police he was waiting for a ride in the Irvington neighborhood when he was struck by an apparent stray bullet fired during an argument between two men standing nearby, police said. The victim when to the hospital for treatment around 3 a.m.


Earlier in the evening, police also reported a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg and foot in the 2500 block of West Baltimore Street after he allegedly was carjacked, police said.

In a separate incident, a 43-year-old man was shot in the face and a 31-year-old man was shot in the leg in Brooklyn.
