Two Chihuahua state investigators married to each other were killed Wednesday and a Juárez police officer was slain Tuesday night in incidents occurring days after a new police officer hit list was found Saturday.

Claudia Tovar Carreon, 30, and her husband, Gabriel Padilla Perez, 35, were shot at around 9 a.m. Wednesday in front of their home on Valle de las Torres street, state police said.

Tovar Car reon died on a sidewalk in front of the house, and Padilla Perez died at the entrance of the home. Investigators found 68 bullet casings. Both were members of the State Investigation Agency. Tovar Carreon was assigned to an investigations unit. Padilla Perez was part of the missing-persons unit.

At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Juárez police officer Gustavo Hernandez Parra was fatally shot outside a business his family owns in downtown Juárez.

Hernandez Parra was ambushed by several men with rifles and shot 13 to 15 times, police spokesman Jaime Torres Valadez said.

It is not known whether the slain were on the hit list. Their deaths are among more than 400 homicides in Juárez this year in a wave of violence thought to be linked to drug-trafficking groups.

The latest hit list was found Saturday posted outside the offices of the Delta police tactical

unit. The note stated "Para los que faltan," or "For those who are left," and listed members of the unit.
Juárez Mayor Jose Reyes Ferriz on Wednesday said that hundreds more soldiers would be sent to patrol the city, while acknowledging that current patrols have been insufficient to stop the violence. The mayor said he did not know how many more soldiers would be assigned or when they would arrive.
