Energy companies across America are reaching full implementation of the installation of Smart Meters to every American home and building. Smart Meters are replacing outdated energy meters in the hopes of curbing energy demands. They will work hand in hand with the coming Smart Grid that will replace the overloaded electric grid this country now maintains. This all sounds good in the hands of a small, unintrusive government. But in the hands of a government that is seeking and gaining control over vast areas of our lives, this is a scary proposition. I started researching the Smart Grid right after Obama came into office and I uncovered some startling information.

[b]First, keep in mind that this change over has been financed by the federal government via the Porkulus Bill. Progress Energy, which provides for the energy needs in Florida and the Carolinas, writes about their change over, “The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed into law in February 2009 contains provisions promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy, including $11 billion for Smart Grid-related technologies, $6.3 billion for energy-efficiency and conservation grants and $2 billion in tax credits for the purchase of plug-in electric vehicles.â€

“…Very few people realize that the entire concept of smart grids requires the unfettered use of RF throughout our homes, businesses and neighborhoods. There will be retrofit antennas for older models but appliance manufacturers are already gearing up for models that will incorporate transmitters into all new models. One preliminary estimate of ambient radiation that such systems will cause found the average smart grid could use up a full 1% of the total allowance for RF according to the FCC standards for thermal heating. Add cell towers, wi-fi, Wi-Max and other common RF environmental contributors and this could get serious. Smart grid proposals do not consider potential cumulative exposures from the other myriad RF-emitting devices in our midst today. Nor do they factor in the recent research regarding what’s called ‘dirty electricity’ — the phenomenon of multifrequencies coupling on lines to create complex energy exposures. Dirty electricity has been linked in some studies to numerous cancers, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. A smart meter, using RF to ‘talk’ with the central information-gathering hub will couple with the extremely low frequency range used in powerlines.

Few know that there has also been legislation to preempt local/state regulation similar to the preemptions of the Telecom Act for cell towers. Smart grids will entail the ability of all our appliances to “talkâ€

NOLANVILLE, Tex. — Sgt. John Robertson 2nd, an Army mechanic at nearby Fort Hood, is fuming about the so-called smart electric meter his local utility has installed on the side of his tidy, 1,800-square-foot home.

Sgt. John Robertson and his wife, Kim, put in energy-saving bulbs and took other steps to cut costs. But his electricity bill is higher, he says, because of a smart meter installed at his home.

[b]Like thousands of consumers with the new meters around the country, Sergeant Robertson suspects the device is not as smart as advertised.

In his case, he says it is inaccurately measuring his family’s power use and driving up his bills — some months by as much as 50 percent, to as high as $320 — since it was installed in December. This, he said, is despite his efforts to cut back on energy use.

California installing millions of smart meters

As Red Alert has previously warned, the energy police are about to invade your home with "smart meters," new electronic/Internet based devices that determine precisely how much energy you are using.

While the devices are being sold as energy-saving tools, the technology also gives the energy police the ability to shut you off or charge you additional if you refuse to install energy saving measures demanded by green ideologues and enforced by utility companies doing their bidding.

The California Public Utilities Commission, or CPUC, has given permission to deploy an Advanced Meter Infrastructure project that will upgrade both metering and communications software to install 5.1 million electricity meters and 4.2 million natural gas meters in homes in the Pacific Gas & Electricity in California.

Tea party fights back

Orlean Koehle, an active tea-party member and a member of the Sonoma County Republican Central Committee, has begun to fight back.

"What is a smart meter?" Koehle asks. "It is one that contains RF (radio frequency) so that it can be remotely controlled and read. No longer will a meter reader have to come to your home to read the meter. It will all be done remotely."

What is the concern about the energy police?

"When all is in place, the smart meter will not only keep track of how much electricity you are using, but it will be able to control, regulate, and ration your use of that electricity," she wrote. "If 'big brother' decides that you are using too much heat in the winter time, or too much air conditioning in the summer time, or using too much hot water in your showers or washing machine (even if you are willing to pay for that extra usage), the use of power will be automatically turned down."

Koehle's not only concerned that green bureaucrats want to impose their global warming agenda on a free marketplace, but that in the future no one will be able to avoid the coming ideologically driven intrusion into our homes.

Pretty soon, Koehle warns, all appliances will be replaced with those containing RF chips.

She points out that one California customer called to find out why rates had gone up such that his electric bill was much higher with the smart meter installed, only to be told by PG&E that he was washing his clothes or using his air conditioning at "peak time," so he would have to pay "peak rates."

"If he wanted to save money, then he could wash his clothes in the middle of the night or use his air conditioner then (when he really didn't need it anymore because the temperature is cooler)," she wrote.

Google gets into the act

If you thought Google was just a harmless Internet search engine, think again.

Named the "Google PowerMeter," the software is intended to measure the precise amount of energy a house consumes and provide an accounting that lists by household location and device that consumes the electricity.

As a result, the Google PowerMeter will provide utilities and any government regulators who care the access the data complete information on a household's energy footprint and carbon footprint.

An easy next step would be for government regulators to demand more household energy efficiency or a reduction in carbon emissions, with the result that "energy offenders" could be charged substantial fines, with the possibility that the truly recalcitrant could be deemed "energy criminals" subject to severe consequences.

As always, government extermination of civil liberties first arrives with a helping hand.

Google boasts its PowerMeter will make it possible for households to "make informed choices about electricity" by providing home energy consumers with detailed household "personal energy information" that will allow consumers to save up to 15 percent on their monthly energy bill.

"Even greater savings are possible if you use this information to see the value of retiring your old refrigerator, installing a new air conditioner or insulating your home," Google writes.

Billing the effort as "energy technology meets information technology," or "ET meets IT" in Google-speak, the goal is to monitor home-by-home energy consumption of every home in the nation, calculating as a byproduct the likely carbon footprint of the household.

The courts will probably already have determined that a generous reading of the "general welfare" clause of the Constitution authorizes the federal government to enforce energy efficiency standards on homes, much like the federal government enforces energy efficiency standards on cars and trucks.

Besides, the Supreme Court has already expanded the government's eminent domain privileges to authorize confiscation of your private property on pretexts of the common good so numerous and loosely defined that energy offenders might risk loss of their homes if they refused to comply with government energy dictates.

Still, Google insists, "At Google, we're helping enable a future where access to personal electricity information helps everyone make smarter energy choices."

If you intend to install a "Smart Meter" or any activity monitoring device at the above address, you and all other parties are hereby denied consent for installation and use of all such device on the above property and installation and use of any activity monitoring device is hereby refused and prohibited. Informed consent is legally required for installation of any surveillance device and any device that will collect and transmit private and personal data to undisclosed and unauthorized parties for undisclosed and unauthorized purposes. 5. Those with access to the smart meter databases can review a permanent history of household activities complete with calendar and time-of-day metrics to gain a highly invasive and detailed view of the lives of the occupants.
6. Those databases may be shared with, or fall into the hands of criminals, blackmailers, law enforcement, private hackers of wireless transmissions, power company employees, and other unidentified parties who may act against the interests of the occupants under metered surveillance.
7. "Smart Meters" are, by definition, surveillance devices which violate Federal and State wiretapping laws by recording and storing databases of private and personal activities and behaviors without the consent or knowledge of those people who are monitored.
8. It is possible for example, with analysis of certain "Smart Meter" data, for unauthorized and distant parties to determine medical conditions, sexual activities, physical locations of persons within the home, vacancy patterns and personal information and habits of the occupants.
9. Your company has not adequately disclosed the particular recording and transmission capabilities of the smart meter, or the extent of the data that will be recorded, stored and shared, or the purposes to which the data will and will not be put.

I forbid, refuse and deny consent of any installation and use of any monitoring, eavesdropping, and surveillance devices on my property, my place of residence and my place of occupancy. That applies to and includes "Smart Meters" and activity monitoring devices of any and all kinds. Any attempt to install any such device directed at me, other inhabitants, guests, my property or residence will constitute trespass, stalking, wiretapping and unlawful surveillance, all prohibited and punishable by law through criminal and civil complaints. Interviewer/Reporter asks Dr. Carpenter, "Central Maine Power says that there is no reason to be concerned about Smart Meters. There are no health effects, and everyone who is worried about health effects of RF from Smart Meters or from the mesh network, really has nothing to be concerned about. What do you say to that?

I say that is ABSOLUTELY FALSE. The question to ask them is what is the evidence that SMART METERS are safe, and have no adverse health effects? And the answer to that question is that there is no such evidence and in fact while no one has actually done human health studies in relation to people living in homes with SMART METERS, we have evidence from a whole variety of other sources of radio frequency exposure that demonstrates convincingly and consistently that exposure to radio frequency radiation at elevated levels for long periods of time increases the RISK OF CANCER, increases the damage to the nervous system, causes electro-sensitivity, has adverse reproductive effects and a variety of other effects on different organ systems.
