The bears are starving due to less ice & unable to trap a seal, some swim till they drown looking for a patch of ice to await a seal.

To drill where the bears' den to produce cubs is disgustingly greedy........they are listed as a "threatened species" but should be listed as "endangered". Guess "threatened species" means NOTHING to the greedy profiteers.

I think President Trump will have an excellent measurable fact-based record on both cleaning up and protecting our environment, because he truly loves our beautiful country. So, common sense dictates he won't allow people to contaminate it or when they have accidents, fail to clean them up properly. Trump is both pro-business and pro-environment which changes how you achieve both results, but doesn't change the goals themselves, which are not mutually-exclusive, because we are a nation that can walk and chew gum at the same time.

    Just my opinion.

Trump is not pro-environment and his actions to date prove that. I totally disagree with your assessment on this. As much as you love Trump, it must be accepted that he has weaknesses ..... all people, including Presidents, do.

tell that to West Virginians & all the states that will be exposed to the dangers of transporting thru to ports. trump negotiated a deal with China to send 20 yrs worth of fracking production. Guess he follows gw's thought, "not every state has to be pristine". And that is where the fuels from Alaska will go - ruin our environment for monies from china. Some trade balancing.......what a trade off - destroying our pristine lands, removing habitat & lives of creatures and subjecting us and our children to many bad health issues - from asthma to cancer & all the suffering in between for china's cash.
China Energy Investment signs MOU for $83.7 billion in West Virginia projects

BEIJING (Reuters) - China Energy Investment Corp, the world’s largest power company by asset value, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to invest $83.7 billion in shale gas, power and chemical projects in West Virginia, the U.S state said on Thursday.

The agreement was the biggest among a slew of deals signed during U.S. President Donald Trump’s state visit to Beijing. The total value of the deals done during Trump’s trip could be as much as $250 billion.

The gas and power agreement marks the first overseas investment for newly founded China Energy, which formed from a merger of China Shenhua Group [SHGRP.UL], the country’s largest coal producer and China Guodian Corp [CNGUO.UL], one of its top five utilities.

Beijing is supporting and encouraging its power companies to expand globally, and the agreement underscores China Energy’s ambition to diversify into natural gas and the refining sector.

The touted investment would extend over a 20-year period, covering projects for power generation, chemical manufacturing and the underground storage of liquefied natural gas (LNG), West Virginia’s Department of Commerce said in its announcement.

Alaska Gasline Development Corp.: a joint agreement to advance a liquefied natural gas project in Alaska, involving the state of Alaska, Sinopec, China Investment Corp. and Bank of China Ltd. The $43 billion project has been in discussion for years, and Alaska Gasline applied for federal approval for the development in April. Exxon Mobil Corp., ConocoPhillips, BP Plc and TransCanada Corp. have been involved in the effort, but have distanced themselves since estimating in 2012 that it would cost as much as $65 billion and take more than a decade to construct.

Trump is very pro-environment. And the proof of that will be in the pudding of the measurable environmental results of his Presidency. I say this with first-hand knowledge of what a pro-business, pro-environment person thinks and how one operates, because I am one and have been my entire life. It's the view of win-win people, win both games, reach both goals, solve both issues, have no losers. Some people only want to win their game, whatever it is, by making other people pay for it, when there was never any reason for anyone to pay for doing the right things in the rights ways so everyone wins, including our species, habitat and environment.

The greatest threat and cause of harm to our species, habitat and environment is population growth. It's not drilling in Alaska or mining coal in West Virginia. It's too many people, too much over-breeding, too much reproduction by humans, it's the Catholic Church, it's Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House of Representatives, telling Americans to "have more babies", it's plastics, it's religious condemning birth control and abortion rights for unwanted pregnancies, it's welfare rewards for unsustainable breeding, it's the Mexico City Policy that encourages born to die social structures in foreign countries.

When you look at it from a common sense viewpoint, the condition of our planet has almost nothing to do with business, it's the result of too many people who have too little common sense about the diminishing returns of population growth.

    Just my opinion.
