Fire illegal aliens and give them tax break to automate!

Save us paying for illegal aliens, taking jobs "American's don't want to do", get them off our soil, out of our schools, off welfare, food stamps and off our healthcare!

What about the AMERICAN CITIZENS who are affected by FARMERS hiring illegal aliens and ALL the burden of costs they dump on us rather than automate!

Both problems, trade and illegal immigration, have to be fixed. This program helps the President with leverage against these cheating countries sucking US dry as a bone through bad trade deals.

Republican Senators: Trump’s Farmer ‘Welfare’ Won’t Work

GOP senators are furious about the Trump administration’s plan to give $12 billion to farmers hurt by Trump’s own trade war.

    ALEX WONG/GETTY

President Donald Trump set off a wave of outrage on Tuesday among Republican lawmakers, who accused the president of authorizing a “bailout” and “welfare” for Americans caught in the crosshairs of his own tariffs.

“It’s awful. American farmers want markets, not handouts. This is what we feared all along—that this would just turn into more aid programs,” Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) told The Daily Beast.

Reactions—nearly all of them negative—poured in from Capitol Hill after the Department of Agriculture announced that it would authorize $12 billion in “emergency” subsidies to farmers whose businesses have been hurt by the president’s trade policies, which have sparked retaliatory tariffs from China, Canada, Mexico and the European Union.

Sen. John Thune (R-SD) said the Department of Agriculture’s decision is an acknowledgement of the “unintended consequences” and “collateral damage” of Trump’s protectionist policies, while Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said Trump was creating a “Soviet type economy.” Others questioned the administration’s overall strategy but said the newly authorized subsidies were a necessary buffer to help farmers that have already been adversely affected by the swelling trade war.

“They’re not going to be able to survive if this continues down the same path,” Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) said of the farmers in his state.

“If it means having a short-term aid package, that’s better than nothing. Certainly we all agree that a free-trade plan long-term is really what we need.”

Conservative lawmakers, who have long derided bailouts and welfare, suggested that the Trump administration was embracing liberal economics.

“Our farmers have been in non-stop saying they want trade not aid. And now they’re being put on welfare. So the tariff policies that have been put in place by the administration are now causing them to invoke a welfare policy for our farmers, which I’m sure is not what they wish,” Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), who has proposed legislation requiring congressional approval of some tariffs, told reporters.

Farmers Fed Up With Trump Trade War Are Running Against Him

‘Immigration Is Good, Climate Change Is Real, I Love Trump’

“The administration creates a problem for farmers, and now they need to put them on welfare. I think that’s kind of a misplaced policy,” Corker added.

In a later statement, the senator said Tuesday’s announcement was an implicit admission from the Trump administration that its tariff policies are not working. “I am glad that the administration finally seems to understand that the Trump-Pence tariffs are hurting the American people,” he said.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), whose constituents have been ravaged by the president’s trade policies, said the Trump administration should expedite its trade talks with China and other nations in order to lessen the global trade barriers—something the senator said would “do more good than that $12 billion.”

But to date, Congress has done little to substantively push back on Trump’s penchant to impose tariffs in order to correct trade imbalances, even as they’ve warned that the tariffs could hurt Republicans running for re-election this year. Corker’s bill has broad bipartisan support but Senate Republican leaders have thus far declined to take up the legislation.

“What is the endgame? What is it that gets us into, or keeps us in a [trade] agreement? And what gets us out of the ever-escalating tariff one-upsmanship?” a frustrated Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS) said.

The whines and venom of the Free Trade Traitors who expose themselves. Of course that's going to lure out a lot of "free traders" into the limelight to show themselves, the ones who care more about their cheese prices than American Jobs for American Workers.

I can understand that in certain times for a short period, but these subsidies are "permanent" and long term.

No they aren't, not the ones Trump is implementing to gain leverage in his trade negotiations, they're short term.

A Mountain Of Surplus Cheese, Brought To You By The Federal Government

    • 7/06/2018

Subsidies: According to the federal government, almost 1.4 billion pounds of surplus cheese now sit in refrigerated warehouses around the country. Yet dairy production is climbing. What gives?

The amount of surplus cheese is growing fast — up 6% in just the past year.

According to news accounts, the reason is that dairy production is climbing, while dairy consumption is falling. Data from the Department of Agriculture show that between 2008 and 2017, milk production in the U.S. climbed 13%.

Over those same years, however, consumption has sagged — with per capita milk consumption down 14%, USDA data show.

The surplus milk gets stored as cheese. If formed into one giant wheel, the current 1.39-billion-pound cheese surplus would be about as big as the U.S. Capitol Building.

Two years ago, the Obama administration effectively bailed out the industry, when it bought up $20 million worth — 11 million pounds — of cheese, which it then used for food assistance programs. But the stockpile has grown 16% since then.

If all this sounds odd, it is.

In what other industry would you find producers continuing to ramp up production while demand slides, and then stuffing the growing pile of surplus into warehouses, hoping the federal government will buy some of it?

What makes the dairy industry different is decades of government efforts to "support" dairy farmers with various subsidy schemes. The 2014 farm bill did away with old federal price support programs, but replaced them with heavily subsidized insurance that essentially guarantees margins for those who sign up. This year, the dairy industry successfully lobbied Congress to expand this subsidy program.

    Distorting the Market

By interfering with pricing signals, the effect of these subsidies has been to encourage production, almost regardless of market demand. It's a problem not just with the dairy industry, but with other agricultural products on the receiving end of government largesse.

Each year, in fact, taxpayers fork over more than $20 billion to subsidize corn, soybeans, wheat, cotton, rice, dairy and a few other commodities.

Critics of these subsidies say that not only do these programs distort the market, but they tend to benefit big agribusinesses at the expense of family farms.

The 2014 bill was supposed to include provisions to prevent dairy overproduction, but clearly it hasn't worked as intended.

Dairy farmers say they need these programs to survive. We doubt that. Like every other industry, they'd learn to adapt to market changes.

In the meantime, ask yourself this question: Why should taxpayers hand over their hard-earned money to protect other people's jobs in a declining industry?
