US Taxpayers to Pay for Safety Inspectors of China's Chicken

Congress Will Not Ban Chinese Chicken Imports

Instead of a ban, the Agriculture appropriations bill will set out to establish U.S. safety inspections of Chinese facilities.

WASHINGTON -- Members of Congress negotiating an agriculture spending bill have signaled they will not implement a proposed ban on imports of Chinese chicken.

Rep. Rosa DeLauro said in a statement on Friday that instead of a ban, the Agriculture appropriations bill will set up U.S. safety inspections of Chinese facilities. The Democrat initially had supported a ban.

The decision may ease trade tensions between China and the United States, although it would not become official unless the bill was passed and signed into law. It is being negotiated between the House of Representatives and the Senate, which passed different versions of the bill.

The U.S. ban had been included in a House agriculture bill but not a Senate version. China responded by banning many U.S. poultry imports in June.

Exactly. And have our own chicken inspected up to U.S. standards at home!

China and other countries have taken over our food supply. Heard on CNBC yesterday or day before that Asian countries love our American chicken feet. Our chickens are bigger with bigger breasts and need bigger feet to support the extra weight. The anchors had a bit of fun with that.

LOL....just as I thought!! The Chinese are getting our big ..um..breasted, big footed healthy chickens, while we get their skinny, sick chickens. Now that's a trade deficit if I ever did see one.
