A Day of Honor and Tribute to Real American Heroes.... Our Veterans!
Posted by Darla Dawald, National Director on November 11, 2012 at 6:10pm in Patriot Action Alerts

Today at church my pastor honored the Veterans in our church that served and told their story, what they did in the service etc... It was wonderful to see pictures of some of our older fellas in their youth decked out in their uniform. At the end, he called all of them up to the front of the church and called them to ATTENTION! They saluted.

It was a beautiful thing to see the entire church honoring these men for their service and sacrifice.

As we clapped and cheered, one of our oldest veterans had tears in his eyes. His story was interesting, to hear his wife speak of his story she will tell you that it's painful for him. She told me that it was many years into their marriage before he ever spoke of what he endured and witnessed in that camp. To this day he doesn't really talk about his experience to many.
When Don Barnhart was in the army his unit was captured by the Germans.

They were taken to Dachau concentration "work" camp. During this time he and his other comrades were responsible for moving bodies to the ovens and to large pits where they were covered over. Not only did he watch many die from disease and starvation, he too became very thin and malnourished. One day the German soldiers told the unit that they were going to get to take a shower and clean up.

The men were happy because they hadn't showered in a long time. By this point there weren't that many Jews left at Dachau, as they had either died or had been exterminated. The first group had already gone in and the second group were in line waiting for the "shower" when one of the German soldiers suddenly told them to go back to their barracks. The war was over. Mr. Barnhart and some of his comrades narrowly escaped the shower gas chamber that day. Mr Barnhart was admitted to the hospital where he and several others stayed for the next few months recuperating. They were alive!

Every Veteran has their own story and circumstances surrounding their years of service. The world is a better place because of your story. We honor you, the men and women like Mr. Barnhart, that served their country and the world. There are 23 million Veterans in the USA and today we acknowledge your sacrifice and service! We are so proud of you and what you stand for.Have you thanked a Veteran lately?God Bless the Veterans!
