Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) received the Paul Revere Patriot Award in a ceremony this week in Washington, D.C.

The award to Senator Sessions was presented Todd Cefaratti, founder and Freedom Organizer ofTheTeaParty.net, one the largest grassroots, pro-freedom, pro-Constitution Tea Party organizations in the United States.

“Presented for leadership in defense of freedom and the fight for liberty by TheTeaParty.net on behalf of the people of the great State of Alabama, and Constitutional Conservatives and across this great nation,” Cefaratti read from the inscription while presenting the award.”

In receiving the award, Senator Sessions told Cefaratti and Capitol Hill Show radio host Tim Constantine that it’s “time for the American people to assert themselves” because the “Constitution is being ignored”:

“TheTeaParty.net, thank you very much. I appreciate all of you and what you do for this republic. Politicians, government officials work for you, you don’t work for them.

It’s time for the American people to assert themselves, and you are right–this Constitution is being ignored. We’re drifting away from the foundations of America.

We’re spending too much money, running up too much debt, and generally allowing our government officials to behave in a craven, political way, rather than an honest and responsible way. It’s time to hold them to account.
