Yesterday, we participated in day one of the, "National Day of Protesting Against Immigration Reform/Amnesty & Border Surge". As a small group of us stood on the freeway overpass holding our, "Stop Illegal Immigration" & "No Amnesty" Signs & Waving our American flags at the thousands of cars & trucks zooming by (many honking in support & a few giving us the finger), the Police popped up.

One of the three LAPD Officers told us that someone called the Police and said we were smoking & drinking. I told the Officers, "That's a Lie"! I told them we weren't smoking anything & the only thing we were drinking was water.

I reminded the Officers about the Execution of 17 years young Jamiel Shaw II, by an illegal alien gangbanger negligently released from jail on March 1, 2008 & he Executed Jamiel the very next day on March 2, 2008.

I also reminded the Officers about the thousands of illegal aliens Obama released from jail back into our communities and the current Border Surge from the illegals entering the Country. I assured her that we were Not smoking and drinking!

The female officer asked me how long were we going to be on the bridge? I told her we were leaving at 7:00pm. "And then that's it"? she asked. No, I told her. "We're going to be here Saturday from 1:00pm - 4:00pm"

And then that's it"? No, I responded. "We're going to be here every Friday". After that the Officers left, but then walked back to the entrance overpass and stood there about 20 minutes before finally leaving for good.

If you're in or near Los Angeles Today, join us on the Overpass at 4th Avenue & 23rd Street from 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Come out for a few minutes or a few hours.

If you can't join us, join the protest nearest you http://tinyurl.com/lhf9k3l

Nebraskans Join Immigration Protests, Child Migrant Debate
    Posted: Jul 18, 2014 10:24 PM CDT
    Updated: Jul 18, 2014 10:24 PM CDT
By Megan Johnson, Reporter - email

Grand Island, NE - Nebraskans are becoming involved as a recent jump in children being sent to the US by themselves from other countries has stirred up debate.

Around a dozen people with flags and signs took a stand on Interstate 80 at a rest stop east of Grand Island, joining hundreds of other demonstrations being organized around the country.

“We’re out here protesting this current illegal immigration problem with all these juveniles, to include the ones that were already here that are adults,” say protester Jess Valdez.

Federal officials say of the 57,000 kids who came to the US unaccompanied in the last year, around 200 ended up in Nebraska.

“Most of them are sent to live with family members for up to 18 months before they can meet with an immigration judge to determine if they have a legal basis for remaining in the country,” says Rob Rutland-Brown, Executive Director of Justice for Our Neighbors, a legal service that works with low-income immigrants.

JFON has an office in Omaha, and recently started working with a church in Grand Island to help immigrants navigate the legal system there. Rutland-Brown says most of these children are fleeing gangs and home violence in Central America, and their numbers have been steadily increasing.

But Nebraska U.S. Senator Mike Johanns says the increase is due partly to child-smuggler profits, and says Department of Justice reports cite other reasons.

“The vast, vast majority of minors surveyed said they came to the border because of a belief that our immigration laws now allow them to live here because they are minors,” says Johanns.

Johanns is pushing for law changes meant to speed up hearings for child migrants and get them back to their own countries.

“It does everything to treat these minors humanely, but expedites the process of returning the kids to the country from which they came,” he says of the recently introduced HUMANE Act.

Legal advocates worry the children, who are not given attorneys for immigration court, won’t get a fair hearing when many are eligible to stay through things like visas or asylum.

“You know that if they’re making this very dangerous journey they’re desperate and so we feel it’s really important to reach out to them and to help them with their legal case, but also help to show them that there are people here that care about them,” says Rutland-Brown.

He says JFON’s short term goals include getting attorneys to represent kids waiting for their hearings. An attorney at JFON Nebraska says as of June 30 of this year, the Omaha Immigration Court, which covers Iowa and Nebraska, had 406 juvenile cases pending - some represented, some not. It’s not known, but unlikely, that all of those cases are unaccompanied child migrants from the recent surge.

Nebraska’s three congressional representatives have signed on to legislation requiring Health and Human Services to give states notice when unaccompanied minors are to be placed there. It’s a companion bill to one Johanns and Nebraska U.S. Senator Deb Fischer have in the Senate.

Border crisis prompts protests, pressers in Nebraska

    By Deena Winter / July 18, 2014 / 56 Comments

ROADSIDE PROTEST: About 10 Nebraskans gathered to protest the border crisis and surge of illegal immigration Friday near Grand Island, Nebraska.

By Deena Winter | Nebraska Watchdog
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — While Omaha Sen. Ernie Chambers quoted Jesus at a press conference in the State Capitol, Tammy Brown of Cozad stood beside Interstate 80 holding a sign that said “Close the Borders” Friday morning.
As Chambers quoted the Statue of Liberty’s welcoming poem, Brown worried about the diseases that could come with the 214 unaccompanied immigrant children that have been picked up at the southern U.S. border since October and placed in Nebraska.
Brown joined a group of about 10 Nebraskans who held flags and signs protesting the recent surge of illegal immigrants — particularly Central American children — overwhelming the nation’s border and Texas facilities.
Last week, U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns confirmed that federal officials told him in late June that so-called border children have been placed with relatives and sponsors in Nebraska. They’re part of some 52,000 children who’ve crossed the border since October — double the prior year.
Gov. Dave Heineman has publicly complained that federal authorities won’t give him information about the children’s whereabouts in Nebraska. And while Chambers and other activists called on Heineman and others to ratchet down the rhetoric on what they see as a refugee crisis, Brown and other protesters took it up a notch.
“They’re going to bring diseases,” Brown said. “Send ‘em back.”
Chambers called Heineman a right-wing ideologue and said the children shouldn’t be treated like invading locusts.
Lona Ferguson, of Miller, was on the governor’s side, saying she doesn’t understand how the federal government can refuse to give him information about the undocumented kids.
“Why are they hiding these children?” she asked. “Why does our government lie to us?”
Melba Kuntzelman, 78, of Hastings, said several of her friends quit teaching because so many children couldn’t speak English and they couldn’t speak Spanish.
PROTEST: Eight-year-old Riley Brewer waved her flag at the illegal immigration protest Friday along Interstate 80 near Grand Island, Neb.

About five miles away in Grand Island, a city of about 50,000, Superintendent Robert Winter anticipates 50 to 60 undocumented children will enroll in his schools this year, based on the roughly 50 who showed up last year — about five times more than usual.
The school district has a “welcome center” for non-English speaking students, and it began seeing a surge in Central American children in 2012, the year Hispanic students began outnumbering white. The school district is required by law to educate the children.
“This is not new to us,” said Jack Sheard, communications coordinator for Grand Island schools. “We educate kids. We don’t get into the politics of who we educate.”
Kuntzelman said Schuyler is “saturated” with Hispanics who work in meatpacking plants.
“I’m a great grandmother — my heart goes out to kids,” she said. But she fears the influx of illegal immigrants will clog schools, prisons and welfare rolls.
Omaha immigration attorney Amy Peck said she finds it appalling people don’t recognize the border surge as a humanitarian crisis not unlike what’s happened in Sudan and Syria. Conservatives and Christians should be stepping up to help children fleeing violence, murder and mayhem, she said.
Jess Valdez, an 83-year-old Army veteran who protested by the interstate for two hours, held a sign saying “Regulated immigration is not racist, hateful or xenophobic.” He blames illegal immigration for displacing American workers and providing cheap labor.
He bristles when asked if he’s Hispanic.
“I’m an American!” he said. His parents came to the United States from Mexico legally in the early 1900s. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars before returning to Grand Island in 1994.
“I was doing my duty and at the same time they were letting the country go to hell,” he said.
For Sheard, the border crisis is not a new phenomena.
“We’ve been working with unaccompanied minors for a number of years,” he said. “We find ways to make it work. We are fortunate for every kid we have.”
