Gingrich Condemned How Reagan Ended the Cold War

Newt says he helped Reagan defeat the Soviet Union. Was that before or after he said this?

    Reports BBC:

In 1985… Mr Gingrich referred to a meeting between Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev as “the most dangerous summit for the West since Adolf Hitler met with Chamberlain in 1938 at Munich”.

ICYMI: Ron Paul Campaign Statement on Republicans Attacking Capitalism

Ron Paul Campaign Statement on Republicans Attacking Capitalism

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign released the following statement in response to the feigned controversy surrounding out-of-context exploitation of Mitt Romney’s “I like to fire people” statement. Below please find comments from National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton:

“Rick Santorum, Jon Huntsman, and Newt Gingrich are once again proving why they are unfit to be President and why this has become a two man national race between Mitt Romney, the candidate of the status quo, and Ron Paul, the candidate of real change.

“Two important issues that should unite Republicans are a belief in free markets and an understanding that the media often use ‘gotcha’ tactics to discredit us. Rather than run against Governor Romney on the issues of the day Santorum, Huntsman, and Gingrich have chosen to play along with the media elites and exploit a quote taken horribly out of context. They are also using the language of the liberal left to attack private equity and condemn capitalism in a desperate and, frankly, unsavory attempt to tear down another Republican with tactics akin to those of MoveOn.org.

“Santorum, Huntsman, and Gingrich are employing leftist tactics because they can’t run on their questionable records and can’t distinguish themselves from Romney. Like Romney, they all supported bailouts, big spending, deficits, and individual healthcare mandates. And, all three have disqualified themselves from the race for President of the United States, first with their records, then with their inability access major state ballots, and finally with these desperate and deplorable tactics.

“Dr. Paul is committed to running the kind of substantive, issues-based campaign the American people deserve. Our campaign will talk about real issues – real spending cuts, a sound monetary policy, protecting individual liberties, and promoting a pro-American foreign policy. We will win what is now a two-man race on these issues, the issues of grassroots America.”

In Case You Missed It: Ron Paul Announces Ambitious ‘Plan to Restore America’

Realistic solutions to spending, tax challenges

    LAKE JACKSON, Texas
    – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign announced the release of Dr. Paul’s “Plan to Restore America,” an ambitious federal government spending, tax and reform blueprint that as President he will implement.

The plan, authored by Paul’s campaign staff at his direction, promises to restore the federal government to its former Constitutionally-limited, smaller-government and less-burdensome place. The plan cuts $1 trillion in federal spending during the first year of a Paul Presidency and delivers a balanced budget in year three of a Paul Presidency.

“Ron Paul’s plan is the only one that seriously addresses the economic and budgetary problems our nation faces. It cuts $1 trillion in one year, and slashes regulations and taxes so our economy can grow and create jobs,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton, a plan co-author.

“It’s the only plan offered by a presidential candidate that actually balances the budget and begins to pay down the debt. And it’s the only plan being offered that tries to reign in the Federal Reserve and get inflation under control.”

Cuts totaling $1 trillion during the first year of a Paul Presidency would be achieved by eliminating five federal cabinet departments – the Departments of Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, Interior and Education. Cuts of this scale will also be accomplished by a Paul Presidency abolishing the Transportation Security Administration and returning responsibility for security to private property owners, abolishing corporate subsidies, stopping foreign aid, ending foreign wars, and returning most other spending to 2006 levels.

Republican voters want a solid conservative candidate who can take on and defeat President Obama in 2012.

The key word there is "conservative."

As the only Republican candidate in this field who is both a true, lifelong conservative and also can defeat President Obama next fall, I hope I'll have your support.

After you complete your "We want a conservative, not a counterfeit" Statement of Support, please chip in a contribution to my presidential campaign to help me defeat Barack Obama and Restore America Now!

    For Liberty,

    Ron Paul

5 Good Congressional Bills We Should Support

    Posted on January 19, 2012
    by WashingtonsBlog

Protect the Web, Revoke the Indefinite Detention Law, Take Money Out of Politics and End the Fed’s Power to Create Money

With all of the bad bills being proposed and passed, we shouldn’t forget to support the good bills which can actually make things better.

Congressman Ron Paul has introduced a bill to revoke the indefinite detention provision just passed by Congress:

Senator Ron Wyden (a Democrat) and Representative Darrell Issa (a Republican) have introduced an alternative to SOPA and PIPA: the OPEN Act. Open is much better than SOPA and PIPA, and is supported by web companies such as Google.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich just introduced a bill to get money out of politics. As David Swanson notes:
Congressman Dennis Kucinich has just introduced HJRes100 which proposes this Constitutional Amendment [to fix the corruption of our elections]:***

    • Section 1. All campaigns for President and Members of the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate shall be financed entirely with public funds. No contributions shall be permitted to any candidate for Federal office from any other source, including the candidate.

    • Section 2. No expenditures shall be permitted in support of any candidate for Federal office, or in opposition to any candidate for Federal office, from any other source, including the candidate. Nothing in this Section shall be construed to abridge the freedom of the press.

    • Section 3. The Congress shall, by statute, provide limitations on the amounts and timing of the expenditures of such public funds.

    • Section 4. The Congress shall, by statute, provide criminal penalties for any violation of this Article.

    • Section 5. The Congress shall have the power to implement and enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
    ***
This does not state that corporations are not people or bribery is not speech or the moon is not made of cheese, but it proceeds accordingly and handles the corruption of our elections as effectively as anything I’ve seen. No amendment is completely comprehensive, but no completely comprehensive amendment is likely to get passed (or even read). I also doubt very much that Congress will ever advance any such amendment, at least until there is a serious threat from two-thirds of the states to circumvent Congress with a Constitutional Convention.

But if there is an amendment to build the list of cosponsors on, this looks like the one. This looks to me like something that the anti-corporate-personhood movement, the clean elections movement, the peace movement, and every other cause for peace, justice, or representative government should get behind. I don’t mean get behind a politician or a party or censor your own complete demands. I mean get every possible Congress member to cosponsor this bill, which exists because of our movement.

Blocking funding without providing public financing is a half-solution. Limiting private election spending while leaving loopholes is no solution. Prohibiting private spending, creating public financing, and making those laws enforceable is a huge chunk of the solution.

We can all remember “H J Res 100.” Now to ask our misrepresentatives to sign on!
Senator Bernie Sanders has also introduced a bill to get money out of politics.

Kucinich previously introduced a bill to take the power to create money and credit away from the Federal Reserve. And see this. (Personally, I think the Fed should be ended altogether – or at least stripped of virtually all of its powers. But Kucinich’s proposal to make it a part of Treasury might be a second-best option.)

All five bills are well worth our support.
