We’re Taking Over (Minnesota Edition)
Much of this story focuses on the excellent liberty candidate endorsed by Ron Paul, Kurt Bills. But the reason Bills has become a serious contender for the U.S. Senate is because Ron Paul supporters have become active in the Minnesota GOP, just like Iowa, Maine and other states. Reports the Post Bulletin:
“We’re hearing that 40, maybe 45 percent of delegates, maybe more than that are going to be Ron Paul people,” said Mike Osskopp, Bills’ campaign manager. “It’s going to be a significant number.”
A spokeswoman for the Minnesota Republican Party said it was difficult to say how many Paul backers would be among the convention delegates and alternates, but their ascent has been the subject of much recent talk in party circles. Last weekend, Minnesota’s Republican National Committeewoman Pat Anderson published several tweets about Paul backers “sweeping” delegate elections at several of last Saturday’s district conventions.
Of course, not everyone is happy about this. Continues the Post Bulletin:
“Ron Paul Libertarians took the Republicans out of the Minnesota Republican Party today,” Katie Nadeau, a party activist, tweeted that day.
Hegseth and Dan Severson, the other Republican candidate, have sought to marginalize Bills by raising questions about Paul. It’s a strategy that risks alienating Paul’s supporters, but in recent days Hegseth has become more aggressive on the subject.
“What we say very openly and blatantly is that the Ron Paul establishment is taking control of the party,”
There’s a ‘Ron Paul establishment?’ Fantastic!
The truth is the GOP has gone through many transformations over the years due to new factions coming in to the party–Southerners in the 70′s and 80′s, pro-lifers, Christian activists, the Tea Party–and all of these changes hardly ever sit well with the old guard.
Yet virtually all of these changes eventually become part of permanent fabric of the GOP and have made it a more conservative party. Most in the party, even those who might have resisted these changes at one time, will now admit this.
Ron Paul supporters redefining the GOP might be the most important transformation yet. The party of limited government might actually and finally become so. And conservatives will have the Ron Paul folks to thank for it.

4,300 for Ron Paul in Philly in the Rain
Even on a nice day 4,300 would be an impressive turnout. Simply amazing. Weather be damned, thousands of people showed up to hear Paul’s message of liberty and hope for a better future. Let’s see Mitt Romney inspire this kind of passion and devotion. Even on a sunny day.
Here’s Ron Paul speaking to the massive crowd just a few hours ago at Philadelphia’s Independence Mall.

Despite Downpour Ron Paul Draws 4,300-plus to Rally on Independence Mall in Philadelphia
Thousands brave rainy weather to greet Paul near birthplace of where founders envisioned a small federal government of the kind Paul promotes
LAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul drew a remarkable 4,300-plus voters to a major campaign rally he held on the Independence Mall in Philadelphia despite poor weather conditions that would have kept supporters of other candidates away.
Event organizers noted that, despite the inclement weather, supporters and undecided voters greeted the 12-term Congressman from Texas with the characteristic enthusiasm for which his crowds are known. It had rained all day and with chilly temperatures to boot, many attendees responded that they were cold, uncomfortable, and feeling poorly. And yet, the people persevered for Paul.
Also noteworthy is that the campaign event took place in the footsteps of America’s modern founders, who conceptualized, advocated for, and created a modest federal government of the kind Ron Paul has been promoting for more than three decades.
Ron Paul’s campaign rally took place on the lawn at the Independence Mall Visitors Center, located at 1 North Independence Mall West (b/t Market and Arch Streets), Philadelphia, PA 19106. The rally commenced at 1:00 p.m. ET, while Congressman Paul addressed the crowd at around 2:30 p.m. Dr. Paul discussed his platform of constitutionally-limited government, the restoration of our civil and economic liberties, and provisions of his path-breaking ‘Plan to Restore America.’ In addition to keynote speaker Ron Paul, featured speakers included Paul backers Pennsylvania State Senator Mike Folmer (R-Lebanon) and former CIA officer and Bin Laden Unit leader Michael Scheuer, both of whom have endorsed him for the presidency.
A photograph of Ron Paul’s Philadelphia campaign rally with 4,300-plus people on Independence Mall follows.

"Paul compares campaign to American Revolution at rain-soaked rally
Posted by
CNN's Dan Merica
Philadelphia (CNN) – Ahead of Tuesday's Pennsylvania primary, presidential hopeful Ron Paul painted his long-shot campaign as a new American revolution at a rain-soaked event outside Independence Hall.
“In our early history, we had a major undertaking overthrowing an empire,” Paul said. “And in some ways that is what we are doing now.”
Paul’s supporters call his campaign the “Ron Paul Revolution,” and they turned out in a steady, hard rain outside the hall where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were debated and adopted.
They stood with umbrellas drawn and ponchos on, even as the sound of rain smacking on the tents in the park made it difficult for people to hear the candidate.
“It is obvious that we need to change our foreign policy because of the cost,” Paul said. “Our foreign policy is a schizophrenic foreign policy – it is on again off again."
Though the Texas congressman finds himself behind former Gov. Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, according to the CNN delegate count, he consistently raises large sums of money. In the first quarter of 2012, the Paul campaign said they raised nearly $10.4 million, with nearly $2.6 million coming in March alone.
At the end of the speech, Paul handicapped the presidential race.
“When you run, you run to win. I have won elections 12 times, and that puts a stamp of approval and what we are doing,” Paul said. “We do know that the continuation of the spirit of liberty will persist no matter what, and that is what really counts.”
Before Paul took the stage, supporters listened to performances by Indianapolis musician Jordan Page and a speech on foreign policy by Michael Scheuer, the former head of the CIA unit that tracked al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. When Scheuer joked about a recent comments by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, about President Barack Obama being “stupid,” the crowd - which had been relatively quiet during the speech - roared at the comment."
