Correction: Immigrant-DWI Death
The Associated Press
BOLIVIA, N.C. -- In a Feb. 17 story about Ramiro Gallegos, an illegal immigrant who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a fatal drunken driving accident, The Associated Press reported erroneously that Gallegos had been deported twice since 2000 and had five prior DWI convictions. Federal immigration officials say Gallegos has been returned to his native Mexico twice, but those were not legally considered deportations. State prosecutors say Gallegos had four prior DWI convictions before his latest.
Also, in stories published Aug. 15., Sept. 19, and Nov. 22 in 2005, The Associated Press reported erroneously that Gallegos had three prior convictions for driving while intoxicated. He had four at those times and now has a total a five, according to state prosecutors.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn
