Irving Police Detail Extensive Investigation Leading To Arrest In 2022 Homicide

On October 20, 2025, William Machado, 28, was taken into custody in connection
with the 2022 murder of Ariel Waldemar Carias-Mendez (obituary lists as Mendez-
Carias), who was 27 at the time of his death, in Irving, Texas. The release of the
peace officer’s affidavit highlights the extensive investigation and exceptional
detective work by Irving Police detectives.

Incident Overview
The shooting occurred on February 27, 2022, around 4:12 a.m. at a car wash
located in the shopping center at 910 E. Grauwyler Road, near the corner of E.
Grauwyler Rd and N. Nursery Rd., where La Michoacana supermarket is located.
Carias-Mendez was found shot and transported to Parkland Hospital where he was
pronounced deceased. Witnesses reported that a male suspect dressed in black
approached Carias-Mendez, confronted him, and shot him before fleeing south
through the car wash bays.

Investigation and Surveillance
Detectives carefully reviewed surveillance video from both the car wash and the
nearby West Wind Apartments. Footage captured the suspect moving through the
complex before and after the shooting. Small details, such as reflective tags on the
suspect’s shoes, were noted and later linked to Machado.

Digital and Geolocation Evidence
Using court-authorized Google Geofence warrants, investigators tracked
Machado’s mobile device in the area at the time of the crime. The device’s
movements aligned with the suspect’s actions in surveillance videos. Further
analysis of Google account information, email addresses, and T-Mobile IMEI records confirmed Machado’s presence at the scene. Photographic evidence from
Machado’s Google account matched the shoes and clothing seen in the video.

Cross-Referencing Records
Investigators also identified Machado through prior Irving Police reports. He had
previously provided similar phone numbers and variations of his name, Wilian
Euseda Machado and William Eucedo, in relation to a stolen vehicle report.

Arrest and Custody
On October 22, 2025, Machado was transferred from the Irving Jail to the Dallas
County Jail, where he remains in custody. Dallas County Magistrate Victor Amador
set bond at $250,000 for the murder charge, but Machado is being held without
bond by Immigration and Customs Enforcement due to his undocumented status.

On October 24, a request was made for an Electronic Monitoring (ELM) device to
be installed.

The case demonstrates the convergence of multiple investigative methods:
- Surveillance video capturing suspect movements before and after the
shooting
- Google Geofence and location history confirming the suspect’s presence at
critical times
- T-Mobile IMEI records corroborating device activity at the crime scene
- Photographs linking the suspect to visual identifiers in the video
- Prior police records tying Machado to the mobile device and multiple name
variations

Through a combination of traditional investigative techniques, digital forensics,
and geolocation analysis, Irving Police were able to identify and apprehend
Machado nearly three and a half years after the murder.

The case continues as the Dallas County Criminal District Attorney's Officer prepares to move forward with the case.
