NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Police identified a woman killed by an alleged drunk driver as 22-year-old Tennessee State University track member Joycelyn R. Gardiner.

Gardiner was killed early Saturday morning when another car ran a red light and collided with her in an intersection.

Police believe 24-year-old Victor Javier Benitez had been drinking and is suspected of being an illegal immigrant.

Benitez was taken into custody Saturday afternoon on a vehicular homicide charge after his minor injuries were treated.

Police said he has been previously been convicted of car burglary, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Gardiner was a middle distance runner for the TSU Tigerbelles. She was originally from Port Arthur, Texas.

The university said she was scheduled to graduate with a criminal justice major in August and had plans to attend law school.

Another sad story...why is our country fighting so hard to take care of these illegals instead of our own citizens who are being killed off thanks to the illegals.

Where is MADD? They could have a huge voice in this illegal immigration fight. I will be contacting them.

I just emailed both TN senators. I asked the question:

    Does this make you happy?

And pasted the article under it.

You've got to be kidding me. Another young American life extinguished simply because local law enforcement won't act to protect their citizens! I know there are a lot of people to blame, the path of blame leads right to George Bush's front door. However, it sickens me to know that many city, town, and county elected officials, judges, and heads of law enforcement refuse to protect their citizens! The argument that it's the federal governments responsibility to enforce immigration law is getting old and costing the lives of to many of our young.

It's so very sad about this young woman. Nashville--like a lot of other cities-- has created a situation that will beget many more tragedies like this. What enrages me is that every report of such a senseless loss is treated as an isolated incident by the media and other illegal coddlers. Not once have any of them examined the statistics as a whole. Well, perhaps it's more accurate to say that they've chosen to ignore the big picture for their own reasons.

Saki - Sam just posted a very good fact sheet on how many lives we lose to illegals everday.

And the media breathlessly awaits reporting the next number killed in Iraq but we hear NOTHING about the sum of lives we lose to illegals.

    Another preventable death.
    Another life extinguished.
    Another family destroyed.

Another beautiful American young person who had an entire lifetime to live. What have we all been cheated out of?

    What might she have accomplished?

Every day, Americans are being slaughtered on our roads by illegals who should never have been here and are now being considered for our most prized possesion, legality.

We fight back at the injustice and our President tells the world that Americans who value our laws and borders do not want what is best for America and are afraid of Diversity.
Who is the President speaking TO when he says that?
Who ist he President speaking FOR when he says that?

Was this young American life somehow less prescious then that of an illegal?
Is her right to freedom and safety less important?
Is her contribution to our society less prized?

    WHY?

Why is our government so willing to sacrafice American citizens?
Why do they treat us as if we are disposable, replaceable, dispensable
Why do they no longer look out for our best interest?
Why are American children allowed to bleed onto American soil so that illegal children can live the American Dream?

    WHY?

    I feel so betrayed.

I called Sen. Alexander's DC office awhile ago but got his voice mail. I left a message about this matter and S1348. I'll call his state office when I'm done with my DC office calls for the other senators.
