COLD SPRING, KY (FOX19) - Authorities say that a suspect in a fatal Northern Kentucky hit-and-run has fled the country, flying from Atlanta to South Korea one day after the crash.
Officers say that on October 8, 37-year-old Lenny Shay was struck by a vehicle in Cold Springs. The incident happened around 1:00 a.m. in the 5700 block of Alexandria Pike. Officers arriving on the scene found Shay lying on the side of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Campbell County Major Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene. Following the investigation, officers determined that the vehicle involved was a gray Toyota. A piece of the grill was shown to a local auto-body owner who further identified the vehicle as a 2002 to 2005 Camry with damage to the front of the car.
Police say they received multiple leads, all of which were checked.
On October 16, the Cold Spring Police Department received a tip on a person who had not been to work since the accident, driving a vehicle matching the description. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Vanna Nay, drove a gray 2003 Toyota Camry.
The vehicle belonged to Kunthy Sok who lives in Fairfield. Fairfield Police checked the house to find that no one had been home for an extended period of time.
The Homeland Immigration & Customs Enforcement confirmed that Vanna Nay left the United States from Atlanta to South Korea on October 9. They also say that Nay was in the United States illegally and was going through removal proceedings with a date set for October 30.
Police obtained a search warrant for the residence in Fairfield. Officers say that the search warrant yielded the vehicle that was involved in the accident.
The vehicle was photographed and transported to Highland Heights Police Department for processing.
A warrant has been issued for Vanna Nay. Nay has been charged for reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident while failing to render aid. A million dollar bond has been issued.
