SAN MARCOS, Texas - The person accused of shooting and killing a police officer in April has been identified as an undocumented immigrant.

Jose Alfredo Perez DeLaCruz, 46, was identified as the shooter who killed San Marcos police officer Justin Putnam and injured officers Franco Stewart and Justin Mueller April 18.

Police say DeLaCruz was an undocumented Mexican immigrant who had been in the U.S. since the late 1990s, officers found no criminal record for him. Officer say DeLaCruz ambushed the officers with a rifle while he was wearing body armor before killing himself.
