    Colorado Sen. Scott Renfroe

Thank you for the email. I do not support SB170.
In 1996, Congress enacted the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant
Responsibility Act of 1996. This bi-partisan legislation was signed
into law by President Clinton after passing through both houses of the
Republican-controlled Congress. One of the issues Congress sought to
address with the bill was the growing problem of state governments
providing public benefits to illegal aliens. One of these public
benefits was the provision of in-state tuition to illegal immigrants.
The section of the 1996 law is 8 USC 1623 and it reads [b]“…an alien who
is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on
the basis of residence within a State for any postsecondary education
benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible
    for such a benefit…â€

Arkansas SB799 failed to get out of committee--GOOD NEWS!-- but sponsor Joyce Elliot will, no doubt, not give up. She has been determined to get this bill through for the last couple of years.
