Summary of CNN On The Story (now)

For those who just missed the program. Here is quick summary. They are on commercial break now. I will add more when they come back.

CNN's On The Story: Sun May 21st

Suzanne Malveaux: While interviewing the President at the border, there were rules laid down by the White House about how long both she and the President could talk. There was actually a guy with a stopwatch keeping time. Whenever it was Bush's turn to speak, he would filibuster and not allow her to interject any questions. Instead of talking about immigration, he was spouting Party Platform with his time.

Question asked of Malveaux from audience member: why when talking about immigration reform is no other group besides Mexicans being talked about? Bush was asked if he believed this discussion was touching on racism because only addresses Mexicans and Bush said he did not believe it was a racist issue at all.

Poll of audience: do you approve or disapprove of a pathway to citizenship? Half replied on either side in live counting of hands. CNN Commentator Joe Johns said this showed that many Americans DO approve of some sort of pathway to citizenship for illegals.

Flash Poll conducting immediately after President's speech (466 interviews in under an hour) claims a 79% approval of what Bush had to say.

Oh HEY! They will be coming back soon with a story of a young man, an unknown, who has used the Internet to get elected to political office! Maybe this is an avenue for those of us who are unhappy with Washington? Ok, who is ready to step up and start running for office? This kid did and no one knew who he was prior to his efforts.
Will update what was said when it's over....

    UPDATE

    Ok here it is:

Mark Harris, a 21 year old, just won a Repub seat in the PA House of Representatives. He used the internet to campaign against his opponent.

They were out financed by their opponent but he won because of the internet. Got his message out through blogs. Countered negative ads against him via internet. Opponent spent $100K on neg ads against him. He had high schoolers very involved in his campaign. They were up at 5am to help out in the campaign.

Built a grass roots coalition of young voters and then used them to get messages out to voters. A Senior in High School was elected to office in Iowa this past year too.

Come on people! If these KIDS can do it, we can do it too or at least help them to take seats away from the current dead-beat leaders in the house and senate.

Question from audience: credibility on the net
CNN said they get lots of info from blogs but you "have to be aware of what their agenda is" Hmmm. Does this mean that if they don't like the agenda, they censor it (don't use it?)

    Guess they prefer chocolate...

Seriously though, it does boggle the mind that the very man who was responsible for all those people with no means of transport to get out of the city, and then sitting there and rotting like animals for days awaiting help, has been re-elected. It was HIS responsibility to care for his citizens in their time of preparation and need and he failed miserably and then pointed the finger at everyone else. I worked rescue there after Katrina and the horrors witnessed were too awful and numerous to detail. I am stunned at his re-election. really.

sawdust, can you believe that? To vote back into office a Mayor who stood by with buses waiting, turning down amtrack's offer to carry citizens away from harm, itis totally inconceviable to me how this city could rehire a totally inept man like this. I have to say though I voted for Bush twice so I have no room to say anything to them! We have to ask ourselves, why do we keep doing these insane things? We are never going to change our country or leaders if we keep going backwards. I can only say to myself, it is partly my fault for voting in this fool of a president and God forbid, if N.O. has another catastrophy like the hurricane and things go wrong again they can only blame their self for what heppens this time! Do you believe this poll on CNN that 78 percent of peole agrees with the President? I think it is a blatant lie myself or they only asked pro illegal citizens to vote.

In all actuality, I live in Nebraska which is one of the most socialist and high-tax states in the Union aside from California and a few others. And...

I am planning on running or Nebraska Legislature under the "Nebraska Party" which is affiliated with the Constitution Party.

I spoke with our State's "Nebraska Party" at length on the phone and he believes a slow influx of people over a period of time will change things.

He somewhat begged me to consider running for State Legislature even though I've never had any political experience in Government. After giving this a lot of thought, I've made a decision to get my foot in the door and to run.

It is my intention to walk the steps of the ladder all the way up to the Federal level.

A big step, yes. But to change things, one must not on y dream it, but to form a concrete plan.

How does that saying go? The definition of insanity is doing the same things in the same way but expecting different results?
