‘You are just a vote’ ad by former Dem calls for African Americans to wake up

‘You are just a vote’ ad by former Dem calls for African Americans to wake up

October 4, 2014 by Hannah Bleau 87 Comments

In what Fox News called one of the tightest and most expensive races in the country, Louisiana state Sen. Elbert Guillory blasted Democratic U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu in a new ad that’s spreading like wildfire.
Guillory’s switch to the Republican Party last year tells a bigger story. He said African Americans across the nation need to wake up and realize that Democrats may not be adequately representing them.

In the ad, Guillory criticizes Landrieu’s lavish lifestyle and lack of connection with the African American community.
“While you scrounge together food stamps to buy Kool-Aid, she sips champagne at cocktail parties,” Guillory said in the ad. “While you dig through the couch looking for gas money, she flies around in private jets funded by taxpayer dollars. But Mary Landrieu knows she doesn’t have to do anything for our community, because no matter what she does, 95 percent of us will line up and vote for her every single time.”
Guillory told “Your World” host Neil Cavuto that African Americans voters should be wary of Landrieu’s narrative and make conscious decisions while voting or risk facing another “one-night stand.”
“A part of it is the propaganda machine that the Democrats have, but the truth is that we are like victims of a one-night stand every six years,” Guillory told Cavuto. “Every six years, Mary comes and says, ‘We’re going to turn your community into Eden, we’re going to bring jobs, and then we’re going to schools — the schools are going to work. We’re going to make it safe.’”
The ad has gone viral since its release Tuesday, hitting roughly 25,000 websites and exposing a growing rift in the Democratic Party.
“Republicans don’t know us, and they don’t know us because we’re not sitting at their table,” Guillory said to Cavuto. “Or very few of us are sitting at their table. It’s an unfortunate thing, but the good news is that more of us are crossing over and sitting at the Republican table, understanding and telling our community that we cannot put all of our eggs in one basket.”

A Compelling Appeal to Black Voters to Move On from Democrat Party Failing Them for Decades

6,080 Shares By Victoria Taft 8 hours ago

This Louisiana state lawmaker’s commercial could be a game changer in the upcoming election and should be a warning to any complacent, self satisfied politico who thinks he or she deserves the big leather chair in a fancy Capitol Hill office.
The ad, by Louisiana State Senator Elbert Guillory, calls out Democrat Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu in a shocking way. It features Guillory on a street corner in his old neighborhood simply speaking into the camera:
Mary Landrieu first ran for Senate in 1996, promising to be a champion for the black community. Eighteen years later, little has changed. Our communities are poorer than they were in 1996, our schools continue to fail children, our jails are filled with young black men who should be at home being fathers.

You see, as [economist] Thomas Sowell said, ‘Politicians are not trying to solve our problems, they’re trying to solve their own problems. Of which getting elected and re-elected are No. 1 and No. 2.’

You’re not Mary’s cause, you’re certainly not her charity, you are just a vote–nothing less and nothing more.
Then Guillory blasts Landrieu’s life on Capitol Hill:
While you scrounge to find food stamps to buy Kool-Aid, she sips champagne at cocktail parties. While you dig through the couch looking for gas money, she flies around in private jets funded by taxpayer dollars. But Mary Landrieu knows she doesn’t have to do anything for our community, because no matter what she does, 95% of us will line up and vote for her every single time.

Since 1996, black unemployment has doubled and the poverty rate has skyrocketed. Mary hasn’t helped us at all.

So on November 4th, let’s send her back to her father’s house or to her mansion in Washington, DC or to wherever the heck she lives, because one thing’s for sure, she does not live here…”
Sure, a sitting U.S. Senator can’t single handedly bring everyone out of poverty, but the idea of the commercial put out by the Free At Last PAC of which Guillory is honorary chair, is to hold Landrieu up to the promises she made; to hold her to the rules she set out for herself.
Guillory already laid out how he thinks things should be in a video he produced explaining why he dumped the Democrats and switched to the Republican Party.
What’s also clear is this latest commercial could be a template to use against other entrenched politicians who are sent to Washington, D.C., and forget the people they were sent to represent.
