It’s Economics 101: Support the Deny Amnesty Credits Act

    by David Bossie
    15 May 2015
    Washington, D.C.

President Obama rewrote our nation’s immigration laws with just the stroke of his pen. This may turn out to be the most dangerous and disruptive action of his presidency. He disregarded the separation of powers and acted in clear defiance of Congress. In doing so, he promoted and rewarded illegal immigration, while putting our national security further at risk.

Obama’s amnesty scheme also has far-ranging economic consequences. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) programs have resulted in the deferred deportations of millions of illegal immigrants. Under the current provisions of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC) many of these illegal immigrants will qualify for a financial windfall of as much $35,000. This could result in the spending of over $10 billion in taxpayer funds.

Since DACA’s inception, the Social Security Administration has issued approximately 541,000 Social Security numbers under the program. If Congress does not address the potential tax consequences of these programs, it will cost the American taxpayers billions.

Congressman Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) has introduced the Deny Amnesty Credits Act to address this problem. This bill will amend the Internal Revenue Code to make clear that DACA and DAPA recipients are ineligible for the EITC and CTC.

Congressman Weber understands that President Obama “has trampled on our Constitution and circumvented Congress to ensure his political legacy far too many times.” He describes the bill as “an effort to dismantle [President Obama’s] amnesty agenda, I have introduced legislation that will stop billions in tax credits from being given to those who are here illegally.”

With rising tax rates, struggling families, and a rising debt over eighteen trillion dollars, our economy cannot afford President Obama’s far left vision for America. His imperial presidency consistently disregards the will of the people and Congress. The Constitution established a government with a separation of powers that places checks and balances on the three co-equal branches. President Obama has ignored this as he sidestepped Congress in an effort to write his own laws. Congress must respond with common sense conservative policies to ensure that the views of the American people are represented.

We know that illegal immigration is one of the most challenging issues of our time. It threatens to bankrupt our economy and puts lives in danger. When Citizens United produced the documentary film Border War: The Battle Over Illegal Immigration, we witnessed the severity of the issue. There’s a battle on the U.S. border with significant drug, human trafficking, terror organizations, and economic dangers that the nation continues to face. This is due to liberal policy supporting amnesty, creating an incentive for individuals to cross over illegally, cutting in front of millions of immigrants who are pursing American citizenship through the legal process.

When the President rewrites the law, and his measures are extreme enough to economically disrupt the American way of life, we have become vulnerable to the very tyranny our Founding Fathers fought to break free of. This imperial presidency has begun to resemble a monarchy. We must fight back.

The first action we can take is to ensure that our voices are heard and our representatives are acting on our behalf. HR 1332 is an important step to taking back control of our government. By preventing illegal immigrants from receiving EITC and CTC, we can help stop President Obama’s executive amnesty.

Citizens United supports Congressman Weber’s bill because it supports hard working taxpayers and prosperity for the American people.
