2-county meth lab busted

Drug agents in Madera and Fresno counties said Tuesday that they have taken down a methamphetamine lab that has been operating in both counties for several weeks.

Beginning about 5 p.m., agents served warrants in Madera County on Avenue 18 near Road 19 and arrested four people, Madera County sheriff's spokeswoman Erica Stuart said.

The four and the hometowns they provided are: Fernando Alvarado Camacho, 27, from the San Fernando Valley; Jose Rodriguez Villa, 28, of El Monte; Raul Ortega Alvarado, 21, of Madera County; and Urbano Galvan Martinez, 24, of Delhi.

Stuart said they would be booked in Fresno on federal charges.

Agents also served a search warrant at a mobile home on the 6400 block of South Fowler Avenue in Fresno County. They detained nine people.

The house in Madera County had been rented to the four men just a week ago. It is believed the four suspects are connected to the operation in Fowler and were living somewhere in Fresno, carrying out business before moving to Madera, Stuart added.

Agents say the Madera house has been reduced to a toxic waste site. Thousands of dollars in cash as well as a loaded handgun were seized.

A 20-year-old Fresno man was arrested Tuesday night in connection with a Sunday night shooting in central Fresno in which a man and a woman were wounded, Fresno police reported this morning.

Taken into custody in the 300 block of San Pablo Avenue was Luis Lucas, who was identified as a member of a Sureno gang. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of two counts of assault with a firearm and a gang enhancement.

Detective Larry Bowlan said the shooting, which was reported about 11:30 p.m. on Sunday in the 300 block of North San Pablo, is believed to have stemmed from an on-going dispute between rival gangs -- the Surenos and the Bulldogs.

Bowlan said an 18-year-old Bulldog gang member and his girlfriend were shot. They were taken to Community Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening wounds.

Lucas was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday with the help of a K-9 unit, police said.
