DON'T WAIT! Call NOW on LOST!!!
DON'T WAIT! Call NOW on LOST!!!
Tell Senate: No to U.N. Law of the Sea Treaty
The Democrats and some Republicans want to ratify the United Nations Law of the Sea Treaty, which would give a UN body control over 70% of the Earth's surface, reduce our soverignity and would allow them to create a de facto global taxation system.
On Wednesday, Octoberber 31 the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will vote on it; please contact their members ( www.senate.gov/~foreign/about.html ) and/or your Senators and let them know you oppose the treaty.
There doesn't appear to be a concise overview available, but see this ( http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=57903 ), which describes how Sen. David Vitter asked several tough questions of Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte during a previous hearing; Negroponte appears to have at least misled if not outright lied. More on their dust-up here ( http://www.aim.org/special_report/5780_0_8_0_C/ ).
This page ( http://www.eagleforum.org/topics/LOST/ ) links to much more information, such as this ( http://www.eagleforum.org/psr/2005/feb05/psrfeb05.html ).

Hunter Calls on Congress: Kill the Law of the Sea Treaty
Amid debate on the decades-old Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) in the Senate, Republican presidential candidate Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) urged his colleagues to follow the lead set by President Reagan by defeating the treaty.
Explaining the dangers of the treaty, Hunter detailed, "It is imperative that our nation does not surrender decision making power for military navigation or resource extraction, especially in this age of terrorism with technology and weapons proliferation. And adding a new set of UN bureaucrats with license to tax and adjudicate disputes is the last thing this country needs."
Hunter continued, "Rest assured no treaty that infringes on the sovereignty of the United States, or further empowers the United Nations, will get anything but a trip to the waste basket in a Hunter Administration."

E-mailed Senator Saxby Chamblis, Sen. Isakson is next..
Dear Honorable Senator Isakson,
I really hope that this UN Law of the Sea Treaty will not be ratified by the Senate committee. It will be a travesty to our sovreingty as a nation. I believe it is part of the UN's control over our society. The UN must NEVER be allowed to trump our own laws.
The LOST gives ISA the power to levy international taxes, one of the essential ndicia of sovereignty. This ISA power is artfully concealed behind direct U.S. assessments and fees paid by corporations, plus permits paid by the U.S. Treasury, but the proper word is taxes. This plan is touted as a model for other resource-related treaties that aspire to enjoy the power to levy taxes. And, of course, the United States will have to fork up our usual 25% of the ISA’s operating budget (as we do for all UN operations).
Please vote against the ratification of this unconstitutional effort of those who seek to undermine our sovereignty. I despise those who seek to do this. Thank you for your time and service.
Sincerely,

And Senator Chambis' response:
Dear Mr. XXX :
Thank you for contacting me and sharing your thoughts on the United Nations (U.N) Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST). It is good to hear from you.
On May 15, 2007, President Bush announced his support of The Law of the Sea Treaty and urged the Senate to ratify it. The LOST establishes legal procedures for governing activities on, over, and under the world's oceans. Like you, I also have some concerns regarding this treaty. As you know, the treaty is designed to govern ocean shipping lanes, as well as the development of natural resources within international waters. However, I am concerned that this may open the door allowing the U.N. to infringe on the sovereignty of the United States .
In order to provide for the safety and security of Americans, we must ensure that our military and intelligence capabilities are not restricted. We must guarantee that we preserve maximum U.S. flexibility to conduct, as it sees fit, anti-terrorism, anti-proliferation, and other maritime activities vital to national security. I cannot fully support the Law of the Sea Treaty until I am satisfied that the United States is protected and that these concerns are addressed.

Just some of the devastating aspects of the LOST Treaty:
It will give the U.N. total jurisdiction over all the oceans and everything in them, including the ocean floor with "all" its riches ("solid, liquid or gaseous mineral resources"), along with the power to regulate seven-tenths of the world's surface. It is not a stretch to see that "he who controls the oceans, controls the land."
It will allow for mandated international regulations of economic and industrial activities on land.
It will extend foreign bureaucrats and the U.N.'s reach into our Constitution, thereby reducing our sovereignty to nil.
It will threaten American sovereignty by subjecting our governmental, military, and business operations to mandatory dispute resolution, to be decided by bodies that have a reputation for being Anti-American. These "disputes" will be decided by an International Tribunal.
It will compromise American security by requiring the transfer of sensitive, militarily useful technologies to other nations and international organizations hostile to American interests.
It imposes U.S. compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, the UN environmentalism treaty.
It will establish an international tax, which would take money out of the American business revenue stream for the ISA's (International Seabed Authority) use and could be easily transferred to socialist, anti-American nations, which constitute the majority of the nations who have already ratified LOST. The tax money collected would give the UN a continuous revenue stream with no oversight but the UN itself!
It will grant the U.S. only one vote (one vote out of 140 voting nations), despite the fact that the vast majority of funding will come from American taxpayers.
By ratifying the treaty, the U.S. will give up its historical claims to the North Pole region and throw its fate to mostly foreign arbitrators and “expertsâ€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Thank you for contacting me regarding your opposition to the
ratification of the United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea (LOST).
I appreciate hearing from you.
As you may know, President Bush recently u rged the Senate to act on
the United Nations Law of the Sea Convention during this session of
Congress . This treaty was originally drafted in 1982, formally ratified
by the United Nations in 1994, and to date has 154 member countries.
Like you, I understand the desire to codify existing territorial and
sovereignty traditions and practices. However, I believe that in a world
of increasing hostility and economic unrest, it is important we maintain
our complete sovereignty as a nation. Joining the Law of the Sea Treaty
under the United Nations would sacrifice the national economic and
security interests of the United States to an in ternational
organization vulnerable to corruption, with few available avenues for
oversight.
Currently, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, of which I am a
member, has completed two hearings for this treaty. Rest assured, when
the Law of the Sea Treaty is brought up for a voted in the C ommittee,
it will not have my support.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with me. Please feel free
to contact me again in the future with anything important to you or your
family. It is an honor to serve you and the people of South Carolina .
Sincerely,
Jim DeMint
