An 8-year-old child is among five victims found shot to death “execution style” in a Texas home by a neighbor after the family asked the man to stop firing his gun in his yard because they were trying to sleep, police said.
The incident took place in Cleveland, Texas, in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 29, San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said in a statement.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the Trails End area of Cleveland in response to a harassment complaint.
“While enroute, the communications center received multiple 911 calls of an active shooter incident at the dispatch location,” Capers said.
“Multiple deputies arrived at the residence and located multiple victims deceased in a resident and several others in critical condition from multiple gunshot wounds,” he added.
The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Francisco Oropeza, remained at large more than 12 hours after the shooting that began just before midnight Friday near the town of Cleveland, about 45 miles north of Houston.
Some residents who live on the street said it was not uncommon to hear neighbors unwind at the end of the work week by firing off guns.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect.

Ten people were inside the home during the shooting and the victims range in age from 8 to 40, according to Capers, as cited by KHOU11.
“The suspect … we don’t believe him to be in the area,” Capers told the outlet, adding that the suspect is a Mexican male.

“He’s at least 10 to 20 miles away from here,” the sheriff added.
In a statement, Capers said that a SWAT team arrived on the scene and cleared several adjacent properties and determined that the suspect had fled the county.
The victims were from Honduras, he said.
“The Honduran ladies that were laying over these children were doing it in such an effort as to protect the child,” Capers said, according to The Associated Press.

Capers said that authorities had previously been called out to the suspect’s home and that deputies had spoken to him about shooting his gun in the yard.
Last night’s incident occurred after some of the victims approached the gunman and asked him to stop shooting in his yard.
“My understanding is that the victims, they came over to the fence and said ‘Hey could [you not do your] shooting out in the yard? We have a young baby that’s trying to go to sleep,’ and he had been drinking and he says ‘I’ll do what I want to in my front yard,'” Capers told KTRK.
Capers said in a statement that three others were injured in the incident and their condition is unknown.
“This is still a very fluid scene and an active investigation,” the sheriff said in the statement.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Immigrant Mass Murder: Mexican Illegal Kills 5 While Drunk In Texas; NYT And WaPo Think This Is A Story About AR-15s

    James Fulford

This is an archive link to the story of Francisco Oropeza, a Hispanic in San Jacinto County who apparently went berserk and killed 5 people (ethnicity unknown). It doesn’t mention his name.

Reporter Trip Gabriel, retweeting this, refers to him as ”man.”

The fact that they don’t mention his name is surprising, because there’s a link in it to this story:

    With Oropeza’s name and picture.

As I’ve said before, if the headline says ”Texas Man” the naive New York Times reader thinks of a guy like this:

That’s actually the Sheriff of San Jacinto County, Greg Capers, and when asked how they know the suspect’s name, he said in an interview with Click2Houston that they have his name, date of birth and his ”Mexican Consulate Card.”

[8-year-old among 5 dead in mass shooting in San Jacinto County | Sheriff says their neighbor is the accused gunman, April 29, 2022].

I know that because I watched the video—the word ”Mexican” does not appear in the article.

The only people who have Mexican Consulate cards (the matricula consular card we’ve been writing about for over 20 years) are Mexican illegals. Mexican legal immigrants have passports.

Capers, whose county is 76 percent non-Hispanic white—i.e., actual Texans like himself—says in the video that he’s been working law enforcement for 41 years and this is the first mass shooting he’s seen.

That suggests that this not about Texas gun laws—it’s about building a wall, and deporting people.

And I’m serious about the headline making people think this is a white cowboy type: the Washington Post’s headline fooled Nicholas Kristof:

See Gunman killed neighbors, child with AR-15-style rifle, sheriff says, by Justine McDaniel and Andrea Salcedo, April 29, 2023.

TX Mass Murderer Identified as Mexican National Who Has Been Deported Four Times

A Texas man accused of killing five neighbors, including one eight-year-old child, is an illegal immigrant who has been deported four times.
On Friday, Francisco Oropesa, 38, allegedly killed five of his neighbors in Cleveland, Texas after one of them asked him to stop shooting his assault-style rifle late at night.

    Murder suspect Francisco Oropesa

A survivor of the massacre, Wilson Garcia, said that they asked Oropesa to stop firing because the noise from the gunfire scared his 1-month-old baby. Later, Oropesa entered his neighbor’s home and opened fire on the innocent people inside.
The victims of the shooting are Sonia Argentina Guzman, 25, Diana Velazquez Alvarado, 21, Julisa Molina Rivera, 31, Jose Jonathan Casarez, 18, and Daniel Enrique Laso, 8.
According to San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers, all five victims were shot “execution style” from the neck up.

According to officials, two female victims were found in a bedroom laying on top of two surviving children, seeming to have jumped on top of them to shield them from the gunfire.
At a vigil that was held for the victims on Sunday, Garcia said, “I don’t have words to describe what happened… Two people died protecting my 2-and-a-half-year-old daughter and my month-and-a-half-old son. They protected him with a pile of clothes so the killer wouldn’t kill them, too.”

The murder suspect is a Mexican national and, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), he has been deported from the U.S. four times since 2009.
He was also convicted of driving while intoxicated and sentenced to jail in January 2012 in Montgomery County, Texas.
A manhunt is currently underway for Oropesa, but law enforcement’s trail went cold by Sunday. Officials are offering an $80,000 reward for any information that leads to the suspect’s capture.
“We do not know where he is,” admitted FBI Houston Special Agent in Charge James Smith. “Right now, we have zero leads.”
Smith also warned that Oropesa may be armed and is a “threat to the community.”
On Tuesday, FBI Houston tweeted a plea to the public for information on Oropesa’s whereabouts, accompanied by photographs of the suspect. They wrote, “Francisco Oropesa could be anywhere. The FBI is working with law enforcement agencies across the state, country and across the border. We’re leaving no stone unturned.”
