IRVINE, Calif. - Five suspects believed to be part of a transnational organized crime ring following a residential burglary on Easter Sunday were arrested in Fontana, according to the Irvine Police Department.
An investigation linked the suspects to multiple other burglaries in Southern California.

    What we know
On Sunday, April 20, Irvine police officers responded to a call from a resident on Cultivate reporting unknown individuals inside their home, as seen on surveillance footage.

At the scene, officers found the residence ransacked and discovered that designer purses, shoes, and jewelry had been stolen.

No suspects were found inside at the time.

An officer on the perimeter spotted a suspicious vehicle leaving the area and stopped the driver, who claimed to be a food delivery driver but could not provide a delivery address.

A search of the vehicle revealed suspicious items, leading to the arrest of the driver, 24-year-old Jhon Osorioarias from Fontana, for being unlicensed.

    Dig deeper
IPD detectives' investigation linked Osorioarias to an organized burglary crew involved in other burglaries throughout Southern California.

On May 15, Osorioarias and his alleged accomplices were arrested in Fontana in an operation involving the IPD drone team, Real Time Crime Center, and detectives.

The other individuals arrested were identified as Jesus Hernandezchavez, 42, Fontana; John Fredy Sanabria, 42, Fontana; Duber Salarte, 48, Fontana; and Isneidy Ortiz Valencia, 29, Colton.

All five suspects were booked at the Orange County Jail on various charges, including burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and possession of narcotics.

Search warrants were served in Fontana and Colton, resulting in the collection of evidence linking the group to the Irvine residential burglary.

    What we don't know
The specific details of the "transnational organized crime ring" and its international connections have not been disclosed.

Officials did not specify the exact nature and quantity of narcotics found in their possession.

The full extent of the other burglaries throughout Southern California that the crew is believed to be involved in is still under investigation.

It is unclear if all the stolen items from the Irvine residence have been recovered.

    What's next
The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are still sorting through the evidence collected from the search warrants.

More charges could be added against the arrested individuals as the investigation progresses.

5 members of international organized residential burglary ring arrested after Irvine break-in

The suspects are believed to be part of an organized burglary ring. Police said they dressed up as delivery workers when they targeted an Irvine home.

IRVINE, Calif (KABC) -- Detectives with the Irvine Police Department say they've arrested five people in connection with a home burglary in Great Park on Easter Sunday -- and they believe the crew is tied to at least five burglaries throughout Southern California.

Home security cameras caught the burglars in action. They were dressed as delivery workers.

Guolin Wang was still in shock on Friday after his home in Great Park was ransacked and burglarized on Easter Sunday.

Documents, credit cards, tens of thousands of dollars worth of property -- all gone.

"I could never imagine things like this would happen to my family. I have no idea why they came to our house," Wang said.

During a press conference Friday, Irvine police said the family may have been targeted by a transnational organized crime ring.

Surveillance video shows a door knock by a woman on Easter at 1:30 p.m. while the family was out for brunch. A white SUV sits parked out front.

Minutes later, sensors notified Wang that someone went into his home through a side window. That's when Wang says he called police.

Then, a man dressed like an Amazon delivery worker walks up to the door, masked and gloved. By 1:50 p.m., 20 minutes after the initial door knock, three men run out the front door with a backpack and suitcase, jump into the same white SUV, and drive off before officers arrive.

Irvine Chief of Police Michael Kent said after forming a containment perimeter, an officer pulled over a vehicle he called suspicious.

"The driver claimed to be a food delivery driver, but after a thorough investigation, it was determined that his story was not true," Kent said. "The driver was arrested for traffic violations, and evidence was recovered from within the vehicle."

Body cam video shows the arrests at a park in Fontana on Thursday after almost a month of police work. Police said four men and a woman from Colombia were arrested.

Irvine Police Det. Sgt. Adam Pettinger called them a "professional burglary group."

After several weeks of surveillance, police recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars in suspected stolen property after serving search warrants in two homes and a storage unit in Fontana and Colton.

"Cash, jewelry, designer handbags, and four guns, three of which have already been determined to have been stolen," Pettinger said.Investigators said among the items found was property stolen from Wang's home.

"I was thinking one of the selling points for this community in Irvine is the safety, right? It ranked as the safest city in the U.S., but I would never imagine these things could happen," Wang said.

Detectives said they believe the same group of suspects is connected to another burglary caught on surveillance video in early April, and said the crew may be behind as many as five burglaries in Southern California.

The five suspects were booked into the O.C. Jail on various charges, including burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and possession of narcotics.

Fake Amazon delivery drivers arrested as part of alleged transnational burglary crew

    Also posed as food delivery

Five people believed to be part of a transnational burglary crew were arrested this week following a month-long investigation into a residential break-in reported on Easter Sunday, the Irvine Police Department said.

The suspects, four men and one woman, were taken into custody in Fontana and Colton on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and narcotics possession.

They were identified as Jhon Osorio Arias, 24; Jesus Hernandez Chavez, 42; John Fredy Sanabria, 42; Duber Salarte, 48; all of Fontana; and Isneidy Ortiz Valencia, 29, of Colton.

The investigation began April 20 around 1:45 p.m., when a resident on Cultivate, a residential street in Irvine, contacted police after receiving surveillance alerts showing several unknown men inside his home. The footage appeared to show the men dressed as Amazon and food delivery drivers.

Officers responded to the burglary in progress but found the suspects had already fled. The home had been ransacked, with designer purses, shoes and jewelry reported stolen.

The homeowner provided still images of the suspects, and a patrol officer later spotted a suspicious vehicle leaving the area.

The driver, Osorio Arias, initially claimed to be making a food delivery but couldn’t provide a delivery address. Officers found suspicious items in the vehicle, arrested Osorio Arias for driving without a license, and transported him for questioning.

Police detectives later determined Osorio Arias was part of an organized burglary ring with ties to Colombia, and identified several alleged associates. Over the following month, authorities surveilled members of the group and were able to link them to additional burglaries throughout Southern California.

Video released by police Friday showed one of the robberies believed to be related to this group in which a woman rang the doorbell at a home on March 29, followed by an early morning break-in days later.

On Thursday, with help from the Police Department’s drone team, investigators coordinated an operation that led to the arrests.
