    Another Bush Kick in the Shin of Americans

    From the Polipundit wesite. Seems like we can't win on any front!!!

    One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

    Congress gives us one step forward;

    Millions of Americans will soon have to clear a new hurdle to get health care through Medicaid.

    Starting July 1st, recipients must show birth certificates or U.S. passports to qualify for state programs.

    Supporters say the measure will keep illegal immigrants from getting health care paid for by the government.

    The Administration takes us two steps back;

    The Bush administration moved Friday to let states accept sworn affidavits from people trying to access government-sponsored health care for the poor when records such as birth certificates and passports are unavailable.

    Please, what Administration Staff Members think this stuff up??

    I can understand it to a point since so many people lost their records and such with Katrina that do deserve it. Or older people who were born at home etc. and don't have or didn't need the official records before. It still leaves the potential for abuse open. I know it's probably "profiling" but common sense would say a huge red flag should go up if they don't speak English well.

    Call me a racist, call me a bigot,I just don't care anymore. I refuse to let myself be manipulated into doing what other people think I should do because I am afraid of being thus labeled as a racist and a bigot by them.! I say we should do a lot more profiling in America, it is totally illogical not to! We are losing America as we know it because of our failure to do so. I really think we are losing all common sense as well.

    Right on target nittygritty.

    I am beyond being labeled a bigot or a racist. I just do not care any more. I am standing up for my country and my rights and if that is bigoted or racist then so be it.

    When Arab men slam jets into building who should be be profiling? My husband, myself, and my 3-year-old daughter had to fly to a funeral back in early 2003. In the line for security at the airport terminal there was an Arab man in front of us. He was let through and we were pulled aside to be "checked". They looked through all our bags, made us take our shoes and belts off, patted us down (felt us up), and wanded us. Including my 3-year-old daughter who most definitely looks like a terrorist if I ever saw one. If I could have gotten to my camera I would have taken a picture of my daughter standing arms and legs out being searched and wanded by security. We are white. Tell me does this make sense, it does not to me.

    When a majority of illegals in this country are Spanish speaking who should be be profiling?

    This PC crap needs to stop!

    I'm so mad about this I can't think what to say in decent language!
    I was so excited about this July 1 law, and now to hear it will be based
    on illegals' "word." It seems there is no winning. I am so disheartened. Another win for the law breakers.

    Who is in control?

    I agree wholehearterly with nittygritty. It is time we start looking out for our own national interests and security. And there will be widespread abuse of medicaid/medicare by illegal aliens with American taxpayers picking up the tab until it goes bankrupt just as social security and all other tax payer services will due to wide spread fraudulent use by illegal aliens.

    Ya....your little girl was as much of a terriorist as that elderly woman in a wheel chair from a hip replacement. It's disgusting.

    There simply are times when profiling is absolutly mandatory!! I mean if they were looking for pregnant people it would be rather stupid to grab men, children and old ladies. Granted there just might be 1 oddity in the bunch for god only knows what reason......... And yes.....you might OFFEND some but hey.......there is no PERFECT solution!! But profiling in most of these situations is necessary!!! I would rather OFFEND someone by profiling than to let a ton go while I'm ignoring the obvious.

    That's about as dumb as the Senate "will only give amnesty to the invaders that have been here for more than five years". Depending on Mexican honesty is about as solid as depending on Paris Hilton being a virgin.

    My sister was born at home in 1934...that's 71 years ago...she has a birth certificate...she can prove anything that needs to be proven via records...as can I...born in a hospital.

    Taking someones 'word' for their citizenship is totally and completely unnecessary as records can be found...for instance..when I started school 60 years ago....I had to show my birth certificate. So there!! There MUST be SOME RECORD somewhere...in this nation being tracked from birth to death is inevitable...just as lies and misrepresentations from people who are trying to steal our nation are not acceptable.

    Who do we raise hell with about this???

    Nitty,

    You are so right. Racial Profilling has really damaged our ability to learn about criminal behaviors and to make it public. The Latino community doesn't want you opening up a police stastic and seeing for instance 75% of the rapes were by Hispanics. Or that most uninsured motorist accidents are caused by Hispanics. They want the truth hidden. About all you can do is find old data and then you have to consider how rapid the Hispanic population has grown. I want that kind of information made public.

    Also, if your ID has already been stolen, getting a birth cert. is no problem and in some states you can order it online.
