What is up with Virginia voters???
Looks to me by the news in the Washington Post, that they have voted in quite a lot of Democratic control. State Senate now under Democratic control.. ...immigration not a huge issue -- except, of course, in Prince William County..
I guess people must LOVE their high taxes, crowded schools and roads.
What gets me is that they say they voted on issues such as overgrowth and traffic .. .but do not seem to connect any of that to immigration!
Has anyone else seen any other analysis of what happened with the vote here?

I live in Northern VA. The post spun this to be a pro-immigration story.
That is not the case. Manassas is in Northern VA and I believe the chairman of the board of supervisors was voted in for another 4 years, even though he is quite anti-illegal. Most of the dems that won are anti-illegal to some degree or another, but the post didn't mention that. The elections in VA have been touted as a barometer for the rest of the nation on immigration. The post wants the nation to believe that we don't care about immigration. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I read the local papers and I hear what people have to say. The mood here is the same as the rest of the country. The pro's are just spinning it for all it's worth. Don't be fooled. We do care.avatar:*912 March in DC

I was wondering if it was slanted. I know people are mad about Iraq, and they are mad about everything basically. So I guess they feel if they vote out Republicans, things are going to change . ..but I can't believe people are that stupid.
Then again, all of this mess HAS happened under our Republican President's watch.
I'm reading lots of theories about this election... not sure what is up exactly.

Thanks for the local color "ourcountrynottheirs" ! I was wondering what was happening, now I have MORE ammo to shoot at Dole and Burr...LOL! Every action that has been taken in Va I ask my Senators "why can't we follow THEIR lead, hell they're our next door neighbors"? I read the Va. papers on line waiting for their newest steps against illegals, and I constantly comment on how great it must be to live where people aren't afraid to take action.

As someone who lived in Northern Va. for 44 years, I can tell you that Fairfax County loves illegals There are a lot of elistists and progressive thinking people who love their cheap nannies and lawn care Main reason I moved to the Pittsburgh area, where people speak English and bleed black and gold

LOL, Steelerbabe -- I can tell you are a good Pittsburg gal!!
I used to live in Pittsburgh as a child .. .perhaps we should consider a move back.
It's true about Fairfax County. I live there and I see it everyday. Illegals are everywhere doing lawn care, and driving around in Volvo's as they take care of the kids of the DINKS and other elitist liberals in the area. It's very evident. And the illegals generally live on one side of the town, and the rich live on the other.
It was appropriate that they held a victory rally at Tysons' Corner. Tysons is the area where all the wealthy hang out -- all the people no doubt employing these people in their businesses, and their homes.

Well maybe you did see it, but Neal Cavuto had the Mayor of Hazelton, PA on today. He won again by a landslide. That is the town that passed the anti-illegal immigration statutes and the ACLU is taking them to court. He said today that they will take it all the way to the Supreme Court. The people overwhelming support him.

The Dems captured the Virginia state Senate and made gains in the state House. I hope the Repubs had learned their lesson but I feel it will take another electoral beating to get it through their heads that anti-immigration campaigns don't work because voters care more about other issues and Hispanics do not like the GOP's rhetoric on this issue.

I hope this nation will be ran by a democratic president, house, and senate just to piss off those alipacers. They're going to blow their brains out if this ever happens.

Maybe they need to read the article on Mayor Barletta being reelected in a landslide in Hazelton, PA. LOL Maybe they need to read Rahm Emanuels's statement that "immigration has become the third rail of politics and the Democrats are on the wrong side of the issue."
That' won't make them feel so well.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

HORSERACE
The Case for GOP Optimism in 2008
It is probably fate that on a grim morning, when Republicans find themselves groaning after another glum Election Night, that a piece that had been percolating for a while runs...
My friends, all is not lost for the GOP. In today's NRO column, I lay out all the data suggesting good opportunities for candidates on the right in 2008. And despite what I said about the mild response from the illegal immigration issue in New York and Virginia below, I think the section on securing the border holds up well:
Immigration: This is an issue that has only gotten bigger and more passionate for the past five years. It mobilizes the Republican base like nothing else — witness the grassroots efforts against the amnesty deal this year — and the Democrats are absolutely split on this; Democratic pollsters/strategists Stan Greenberg, Al Quinlan, and James Carville call it “a real wedge issue.â€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
