    Another Illegal

Alien put in jail at the expense of one child and taxpayers expense.

A day laborer from Honduras was sentenced today to life in prison without parole for the murder of a 10-year-old boy, whom he abducted from a Morristown park nearly eight years ago and beat to death with a gardening tool after trying to rape him.

Porfirio Jimenez, 43, was sentenced in Superior Court in Morristown by Judge Salem Ahto to life in prison plus 25 years for the murder of Walter Contreras Valenzuela on May 20, 2001.

Porfirio Jimenez is escorted form Superior Court in Morristown after Judge Salem Ahto sentenced him to life in New Jersey State prison for the murder, kidnapping and attempted sexual assault of 10-year-old Walter Contreras Valenzuela. Jimenez killed Walter Contreras Valenzuela with a gardening tool on May 20, 2001 to cover up his attempt to sexually assault the Morristown boy.

Jimenez lured the Morristown boy from a park where he had helped him feed cookies to ducks, and first tried to sexually assault the youth before using a four-pronged metal garden cultivator to beat him to death to keep him from telling anyone. He was convicted by a jury in a trial last year.

Given an opportunity to speak, Jimenez professed his innocence and claimed he was railroaded and his attorneys would not listen to him.

"An innocent person has been accused," Jimenez said through a Spanish-language interpreter, causing family members of the boy to gasp in disbelief. "Since the trial has started, there has been racism. Everything is slander."

However, Ahto told the killer, "Based on the jury's findings, my conclusion is you are a depraved, ferociously brutal pedophile who stands before me and shows absolutely no remorse."

Walter's body was found two days later in woods off Cory Road in Morristown. Jimenez was arrested on June 7, 2001, after a DNA sample linked him to the killing.

During a victim-impact statement, Walter's parents, Rolando Valenzuela and Eleodora Contreras, flanked their daughter, Walter's 16-year-old sister, Isamar Valenzuela, who was 9 years old at the time of the killing and was the last family member to see Walter alive.

In an emotional statement seething with anger, Isamar spoke of her brother and his love for the outdoors and animals, and described Jimenez as a "monster" who took his life and now haunts the family.

"What hurts the most is I can't remember his laugh," Isamar said of her older brother. "All my memories have his painful death attached to them."

"A pure child tainted and hurt in ways that are unimaginable," she continued, her voice rising, adding, "Can a human being really have done this? Can this man be human?"

Isamar was 9 when her brother left their Abbett Avenue house around noon headed for the nearby playground, where he liked to fish, feed ducks and catch frogs. Isamar followed Walter, but he didn't want her tagging along so she returned home. In his pocket was money his mother had given him to buy Chinese food before she headed to work as a hotel housekeeper.

Jimenez had been hanging around the Abbett Avenue playground that evening drinking beer with friends, and was chased out twice by a police officer. Authorities believe Walter met him there. One witness said he saw them at a church carnival in Morris Township, about two miles away from the park, at 8:15 p.m.

They later took an access road off Cory Road that leads to the banks of the Whippany River, where Jimenez tried to sexually assault Walter. The boy tried to protect himself when Jimenez began striking him over and over with the cultivator, found days later in deep brush about 30 feet away from Walter's body. Walter died from brain swelling caused by repeated blows to the head.

Walter's death brought Morristown together at a time when tempers sometimes flared over the exploding growth in the Hispanic population.

The case stalled early on because of legal battles over Jimenez's claim of mental retardation in a capital murder case. In 2002, the U.S. Supreme Court outlawed the execution of mentally retarded inmates, but states needed time to implement the ruling. The issue vanished when the state Legislature abolished the death penalty in 2007.

During the trial last year in Morris County, Jimenez's defense claimed he had become psychotic after trying to sodomize Walter. A psychiatrist testified that Jimenez did not think Walter was a boy, but rather the devil incarnate, who had to be killed with a God-given "weapon of salvation."

However, a jury of seven women and five men flatly rejected the insanity defense. The panel deliberated nine hours over two days before finding Jimenez guilty of murder, felony murder, aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping and a weapons charge.

He's too stupid to know about DNA?

    He was psychotic BEFORE that!
Besides, I thought he said he didn't do it? Why the change?
Maybe because the jury didn't buy your lame excuse.
He was looking in a mirror when he saw the Devil!
