To the Members of the California State Senate:

I am returning Senate Bill 1 without my signature.

At a time when segments of California public higher education, the University of California and the California State University, are raising fees on all students attending college in order to maintain the quality of education provided, it would not be prudent to place additional strain on the General Fund to accord the new benefit of providing state subsidized financial aid to students without lawful immigration status. Under existing law, undocumented students, who meet the required criteria, already qualify for the lower in-state tuition rate while attending California public colleges and universities.

Therefore, I cannot sign this bill.

Have you ever had one of those days when everything went wrong? Today I had one of those days. So I am sitting here exhausted at about 10:30 PM left coast time Saturday night and go to the book mark ALIPAC that is at the top of my book mark list and see this thread. I read this post like four times to make sure I was reading it correctly. In just 30 seconds my slightly depressed doomsday mentality was wiped away and all in my world was right and bright again. I would like to thank redpony353 for giving me the opportunity to say "Yo, California Dreamers you have been terminated!" And with that I head off to sleep with the biggest (mod edit) eating grin you have ever seen!
