Thread: What? Illegals are getting food stamps?

I am so sick of hearing how illegals are a net benefit to the U.S., about how they contribute far more than they take in public services, about how they never receive any welfare whatsoever. What a crock? As reported in one city alone, El Paso, TX, reporters whine about how planned eligibility changes and budget cuts in food stamp programs by Congress would affect 11,000 illegal aliens receiving food stamps. I thought you had to be a U.S. citizen or legal resident alien to receive these benefits. So you know that if they are willing to report this figure, the amount is probably much higher. As far as those who are legal 'documented resident aliens', they report that in the U.S., 70,000 receive food stamps. So how can groups like La Raza, Derechos Humanos, etc. say that immigrants illegal or otherwise aren't a drain on the taxpayers? If they are getting food stamps, they are most likely receiving other types of benefits as well, including housing assistance, free medical care, not to mention the costs of educating their prolific offspring, all at U.S. taxpayer expense. So next time you hear about Americans losing out on needed public assistance programs, you know where that money is going, to provide for the needs of illegals. It may not seem like a huge number, but given time, thanks to Jorge's proposed 'Scamnesty' scheme, you can bet that figure would skyrocket. Ever wondered how they can afford to send the BILLIONS of dollars back to their home countries, like Mexico, it's because the U.S. taxpayer is footing the bill for their other expenses. Given the huge market for fraudulent ID/residency/work documents, and the huge numbers of untaxed, under the table laborers, it is most likely certain that many illegals even work AND receive food stamps at the same time. From where I live in San Diego, it is not unusual for the local welfare offfices and WIC/AFDC outlets to have cars in their parking lots with Mexico license plates. That's right, cars with license plates from Mexico, and not just jalopies mind you, but cars that are nicer and newer than most Americans can afford.

AUSTIN -- Texas would be the hardest hit by proposed federal cuts to the Food Stamp Program, with at least 76,000 people, including 11,000 undocumented immigrants, losing benefits, according to a report released Tuesday.

"The House-passed budget would be devastating for hardworking Texans struggling to feed their families," said Celia Hagert, senior policy analyst at the Center for Public Policy Priorities, which produced the budget-cut analysis.

If the cuts are approved and spread evenly across Texas, more than 4,000 El Pasoans could lose food-stamp benefits, she said.

Facing a growing federal budget deficit and mounting bills for the war in Iraq and hurricane recovery efforts, Congress is trying to cut spending while maintaining tax cuts. Last month, the U.S. House approved cutting $50 billion from the federal budget by 2010, including $796 million for food stamps. Nationwide, about 235,000 people, including 70,000 documented immigrants, would lose the benefit.

The Senate budget bill trims the budget by about $35 billion and does not include the food- stamp cuts. A conference committee of House and Senate members will work out a compromise version of the bill.

Food-stamp reductions in the House bill would come through tightened eligibility standards. Now, low-income Texas families can own a car, have some savings and still qualify for food stamps. The House bill would disallow that.

Wait a minute....did they just say TEXAS has more people on food stamps than any other state?

And this is the saddest story I've heard so far. Because where Texas goes, so does the rest of the nation.

Not a surprise. My two youngest kids are fortunate to be covered by the state health care, otherwise we'd have none for them, my husbands employer offers benefits to employees he pays $11.00 hourly, a package for three dependents at $662.00 monthly!!!NICE, HUH? So, my husband is covered, but I am not by anything. So it goes. Then I was in the county medical office with my 23 year old daughter (she is bi-polar so they will let her have guaranteed medical, thats the only reason) and in come these Mexican women wearing better clothes than I can afford, nice shoes, gold earrings and necklaces, etc..., then we left and saw one of them pulling out in a newer model car (about 2000-2001 Chevy sedan, 4 door) while we walked toward the bus stop. Yes I too see them using the food stamp card in the checkout line in our grocery store. I also see them going to local food banks to supplement their foodstamps. It is to my understanding that at least here in Oregon that they can only get foodstamps for the children born here, but I don't think anyones been keeping up on that. Plus many of then say they are not married and living with the father, so they claim no income, and that entitles you to higher amount of foodstamps. I've personally known many American families who's incomes are just above what the state says it must be to "not need assistance" (one person told us it was by $6.00 above the "need" level) and so they were denied, but they and their children regularly go hungry. Now since there are budget shortfalls, our government will not only allow our jobs to be stolen out from under us, they will cut off many families that need this, and continue to allow others to go hungry, all the while, illegal aliens are here, living comfy on our tax dollars. I have to say, knowing this all makes me extremely bitter, and could easily make one highly racist, but its something we fight as being a bad side of our anger. I keep working to direct that anger at the employers and the government not enforcing the laws we have set. I look forward to a day when Americans have secure borders and the prosperity that our founding fathers wanted for us.

How dare Booch spend a cent on foreign aid, securing Iraq's democracy or giving food stamps to illegals if we have American kids going hungry. What a disgrace, I doubt anyone in Jorge's family has ever had to worry about health care or having enough food to feed their kids? I doubt anyone he knows has ever had their job taken over by an illegal. Yet he says illegals only do jobs Americans refuse to do. I myself worked 16 years in the restaurant business. My father worked in home construction for 20 years after retiring from the Navy. My grandparents worked in the farm fields of New Jersey working their fingers to the bone before, during and after the Great Depression. How dare Jorge Dubaju Booch treat Americans like this, while calling illegals 'heroes and salt of the earth, good hearted folk'.

I once heard from a friend who's boyfriend is an SDPD officer that one day he pulled over a woman for speeding and when asking for her ID, she pulled out her wallet and out fell 29 different valid State of CA Benefit cards, all with the same first name and different Hispanic last names. When he tried to report her to the local welfare fraud office, he was told by a so-called fraud supervisor to just let her go, they had no resources to investigate it. So he wrote her a ticket, which of course she never paid or appearred in court for and is probably out there still today, collecting endless benefits while American kids go starving. This really pisses me off, and Jorge calls us a 'Nation of Laws', yeah right.

reptile09--can your friend's boyfriend check the files and get the license number of the person? Maybe we can have another EXPOSE? The ticket and all that information would be a matter of PUBLIC RECORD!!! The driver's license used would have a PHOTO on it!! Just watch what is happening to the Delta employees...on the news tonight....Delta failed to fund their pension fund...so the retired pilots for example who have been living on their pensions have seen their pension payments cut by 80%! There is a Pension Guaranty Insurance Board or something like that through the federal government but guess what--it's $23 Billion in the hole with 23 more companies ready to file bankruptcy and declare inablity to fund the pension funds.

Delta has no excuse for being bankrupt. None. They were a non-union airline. They have great equipment; great routes; great reputation; absolutely no excuse for going bankrupt. A federal investigation should be deployed immediately into where the money went and who got it.

Also HEADS UP to the Airlines....the non-refundable ticket is going to bankrupt all of you. Mark my words. I predicted that 8 years ago. You cannot operate an airline on non-refundable ticket scams. Your fliers fly because they are in a hurry; springing here to there; they need immediate flexibility; average cost of ticketing; their money back if they change their mind; no change fee if they need to change a reservation; no penalty if they don't show and don't cancel. I've flown under regulated industry; under non-regulated industry; under the insanity of recent years with ticketing pricing procedures that just bore me to death and as a result I hardly ever fly now and realized..gee...it wasn't all that necessary after all.

9/11 made traveling by air a bad experience; having strangers touch your breast; make you take your shoes off; virtually undress you in front of strangers; peer into your private bags; have your property confiscated; it's all just TurdWorld Crap.

They are rude to you; they don't feed you any more; and it's just no longer worth the cost of the ticket.

11,000 "UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS" are receiving FOOD STAMPS??

OK, the way I see this is that we need to use some SIMPLE MATHEMATICS here. If 11,000 ILLEGALS are getting food stamps and 4,000 El Pasoans could lose their benefits, let's just add it up. I'm no mathematical genius BUT this is the way I figure it---if they STOPPED ALLOWING ANY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS from getting food stamps, then their shortfall would be RESOLVED. Hungry AMERICAN CHILDREN would not lose THEIR RIGHTFUL BENEFITS. I can't remember if the article stated exactly how many food stamp recipients would lose their benefits under this new plan but my guess is that if they cut out the 11,000 ILLEGALS who are receiving them, the figures would just about balance out.

Right!! Illegal aliens are taking the food right out of the mouths of our babies.

The food and the health care as well. ALL of those programs are going to be cut and the solution is a simple one. Get ALL people off of those government programs for the poor that are not AMERICANS and OURS shouldn't suffer.

Your personal experiences with the illegal alien situation makes me so angry at the Bush administration. Pass the bucket.
We are all in trouble big time. Health Care should be an added and affordable benefit to EVERY American citizen. I dont care if you work flipping burgers for $5 an our, the employer should include health care into the $5 an hour. HMO's were first introduced as a way to add a health care package to employers and were touted as being so affordable. So what happened? ILLEGAL ALIENS HAPPENED! They have caused our insurance rates to sky-rocket out of control, so that illegals could be covered too. No wonder pregnant women want to slip into our country and plop down their litters.
And, to add to the already sickening amount of money WE pay to take care of their health, we also have to pay for their food. This just makes me sick!

Oh Boy, BBean. Do I EVER agree with that. Private health insurance is KILLING me. Can't afford to have it. Can't afford NOT to have it. It is a crisis of huge proportions.
