    Boycott ?

The other day in the grocery I picked up a box of candy canes and some other stuff, just before I checked out I happened to look down at the candy cane box and saw-XXXX confectionary company USA and then just a little beneath that-Made in Mexico! I put them back and didn't buy them because I am skeptical of the safety of the products from there. I am concerned about products from countries that don't like us, as well.
This same company makes my favorite lollipops,too-I will check that bags label as well next shopping trip.
Just thought I would post this information for other candy addicts.

Smart move, I refuse to buy ANYTHING made in, assembled in or coming from Mexico. Their hatred of the US is well documented.

    Two words: Lead poisoning.

Felix Ortiz is your usual bleeding-heart, open borders, socialist nanny state, Dem. dumb-ass, but he proposed a bill in the Assembly that would have banned the importation of Mexican-made candy-after being alerted to this phenomenon by his constituents in Sunset Park.

I have to give him a golf clap for that one.

    More info:

Imported Candies - DOHMH also issued a health advisory in August of this year warning New Yorkers about the possible dangers of eating imported candies and snack products from Mexico. The alert was prompted by a joint investigation by DOHMH and NYS Department of Agriculture & Markets, along with prior alerts by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

Our investigation found that imported candies and snack products from Mexico including chili-containing lollipops, salted snack foods and snack powders as well as tamarind candies were widely available in certain neighborhoods. Many of the products found had been identified by the FDA as potentially contaminated with lead. Preliminary lab results showed possible lead contamination.

The Health Department requested the assistance of the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets to expand the evaluation of candy products and the control of the product at wholesale markets. Their evaluations showed that of the 42 candies tested, one exceeded FDA's guideline of 0.5 ppm. The one product was produced by the Lucas Corporation. The Lucas Corporation had recently voluntarily withdrawn its candy products because of potential lead contamination. As a result, in its follow up investigations of large NYC distributors of Lucas products, NYS Ag & Markets was unable to find Lucas candies. Therefore, no regulatory action was taken.

Be careful about that. PA went back and wrote up tax bills for people who bought cigarettes online, as the state was missing out on thousands of dollars in sales tax -- and well, we can't have THAT now can we?

Just a little hint to those with a business sense

Start an American company making anything

People are so fed up with foriegn made products ,

This year I know that small companies that are making
toys here IN THE US are cleaning up ,

    Advertise as AMERICAN MADE

I would heartily advise you to stay away from any food made in Mexico. I worked at a plant in Mexico for over 3 years and the cleanliness habits of the production workers were atrocious. Disgusting actually. I refused to use the men's room there, I would drive back to my apartment at lunch time.

Part of the reason with the large outbreak of food poisoning
    and tainted products here now

In Vegas you need a health card to work in any food related
business but you can buy a fake health card on any street corner
    for $50

I don't recommend any of the buffets here anymore

I check every label in the grocery store. If there are spanish cooking instructions or spanish names (such as Pillsbury does), I will not buy it. Hopefully their sales will go down rather than up.

Thanks for the imput guys, besides the reasons in my original post I remembered this past summer hearing about food vendor trucks (in Prince William Co. I think) selling Mexican candy that was known for lead contamination.
